I have never been a Murray fan but he played brilliantly and deserved his gold medal!  Also, well done to Jess Ennis and Mo Farrah - we are having a great Olympic Games!  Go Team GB!!

I have always found him a tad dour - but I heard this afternoon he was at Dunblane in 1996, only a
little boy of 8 or 9 - that must have left heavy duty scars, surely?

Absolutely.  Actually, I think it's more his pushy, mouthy, sour-faced Mother I can't abide rather than Murray himself.  >:D

Oh Linda how right you are about Andy Murray & his dreadful Mother!  and if I hear Gary Linekar say "tell me how you feel" once more I shall scream & put my foot through the telly >:(  I do love watching Clare Balding, Mark Foster & Ian Thorpe.  Team GB have been Fab!  Third in the medal table - unbelievable!

Gary Lineker ought to stick to football commentating.  I don't mind the rest of them except Ian Thorpe practially always started his sentences with "Look" which irritated me!  Wonder what they'll come up with for the closing ceremony?  I've heard that Kate Moss and Russell Brand are going to be involved!  Much as I love them .... why?  Still, can't be worse than Paul McCartney who I had the misfortune to witness singing 'Hey Jude' yet again in the velodrome!!  Na na na ........  :-Z :-Z :-Z :-Z

I see plenty of places with medal counts. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of medals per million citizens of population -- that would probably put UK ahead by a long, long way! After all, seeing the country with nearly one fifth of the word's population in the lead should be a given.

Don't even go there, TRex. Don't you know we haven't even got over winning the World Cup in 1966 yet?

TR, did I miss something?  The last I checked, China had half the world's population not a fifth.

I agree that it makes sense that they would be in the lead.  I also agree that our friends in the UK have made an excellent showing, all the way around.  That includes the organizers as well as the athletes.  Congrats from this side of the pond!

I have never seen that high a percentage. I have seen approximately 20% in at least two or three places, including this List of countries by population which shows China having 19.16% of the world population. If you know of some other information, please share -- it would be interesting to see if there is a wide variance in estimates.

No, it's not a half.  It's been reported at 1/4 to 1/5 for decades.

On a different Olympic thread may I please add "Bradley Wiggins for Prime Minister!" or at the very least a knighthood! :-) To win the Tour de France and then a few short days later an Olympic gold medal.  Fantastic achievement among so many amazing feats!  Oh & Ben Ainslie, Nick Skelton....
I'll stop now & do some work.

ps yet again you are right Linda!!  Why does Paul McCartney keep tormenting and torturing us?  Perhaps it's time to retire gracefully? :-Y
