Word suggestion: standard puzzle March 5th
« on: March 06, 2012, 08:00:25 AM »
OK, I would accept it may be classified as rare, but the subject is increasingly common:  botnet

From Wikipedia:  A botnet is a collection of compromised computers, each of which is known as a 'bot', connected to the Internet. When a computer is compromised by an attacker, there is often code within the malware that commands it to become part of a botnet.

I agree too!

It is sometimes written with a capital B, or as two words: bot net, but it is most often written botnet.

The term was seen in Usenet postings from the 1990s, but seems to have started coming into wider circulation around 2004. Michael Quinion wrote about it in World Wide Words that year. It's now in some dictionaries, including the Concise Oxford, Collins and Wiktionary.
