Disaster Relief
« on: February 16, 2011, 04:53:52 AM »
Dear Forum Friends:

For anyone wishing to contribute to disaster relief for Queenslanders, the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal has a website that makes it simple and secure to donate online. So far, over $200,000,000 has been raised.

I have been going to Red Rooster to donate - they are matching donations dollar for dollar.

Red Rooster was probably a good option for people in Australia, although it looks like their campaign ended on 12 February. The money went to the same destination, the Premier's Appeal.

But I doubt if Nineoaks or Birdy would find any food outlets in the US with such an offer!

No Red Rooster in Canada, either, but we have Timmy's--Tim Horton's (coffee and doughnuts, a favourite place for our Mounties to hang out when they aren't saddling up their sled dogs.

I'll do it through the website.

I know this thread was started in response to the Queensland floods, but the title is suitable for other such items and I don't want to clutter the boards with these kinds of items.
Does any one here know where we can donate to the Japanese disaster relief?
I am thinking of folding paper cranes from the money that I want to send in.
The images and reports coming from the area are utterly incredible and heart wrenching. I realise that the Japanese probably stand better than any other nation on earth to respond to this disaster, but I would certainly like to make them aware that they have our support.

Im sure everyone is horrified by the  news coming out of Japan and now Tonga. We are so lucky to only have had floods.Floods are bad enough but at least the earth didnt shake and cause tsumanis.
My sympathy goes out to everyone touched by these natural disasters.

You've probably found this information by now, but the Yahoo home page had a list of organizations to donateto for the Japanese disaster relief.

I had heard that the proceeds from this year's annual Cherry Blossom Festival were going to the relief efforts for the disasters in Japan.  If this is so, what a wonderful way to return the present!
