Not exactly a new word suggestion
« on: May 14, 2007, 11:10:55 PM »
Today's puzzle made me think of the word "Innie." Most children around here would know what it means because they compare their innies with other people's innies or outies.  I wonder if its usage extends beyond NY? Everyone has either an innie or an outie, and innie being a belly button that goes in, and an outie, one that sticks out.
Have you compared innies and outies lately?
I don't think we'll find it in a dictionary.

They have surgery to fix that now, so don't get fixated! You'll get cross-eyed.

Really!! I thought it was just poor knot tying skills and you had to live with it for the rest of your life.

"Innie" and "outie" are used in Australia too.

It seems they are in a dictionary - the Random House Unabridged Dictionary. [By the way, what kind of name is that for a source of reliable information?]

"Innie" is defined as meaning "a person who belongs to an in-group, esp. a fashionable or select one" as well as a concave navel or a person having such a navel. (See http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/innie.)

So I think they should be added to our word list.

Of course..
It would have been very amiss of me to have started the poll and not voted.
I'm an innie....i have been an outie too...when i was expecting my twins.
And it has been very multifunctional over the years.. :o....[ask me no questions ...etc...]
Tantalising......

well - have you noticed that all the votes so far are innies? perhaps you have found a new previously unknown correlation between the shape of one's umbellicus and a propensity for time wasting word games - write to the Lancet at once!
v
ps - where were you really when you were absent? in a maudy sulk as has been suggested or flittering about the countryside out of reach of an internet connection?
