Word not allowed - latin
« on: February 06, 2010, 06:10:58 PM »
Before she became a forum member, tiggerbelle asked in an email about this word:

In today's challenge (sunday 24 Jan) I noticed that the word latin was not allowed ... an oversight IMHO, given it can refer to a style of music, as much as to the language. What gives there?

Sorry it's taken me a while to get on to this one, tiggerbelle. The rule we use is that words written with a capital letter are not allowed. This seems to be the case with Latin. It is almost always written with a capital L, even in phrases like Latin music, or Latin jazz.

Yes indeed Alan. only derivatives such as 'latinise', 'latinity' etc use the small 'l'.
