I don't know the word bento. I have no idea what it is, but maybe that's because, unlike you, Alan, food to me is simple a necessity to stay alive.

There are certainly no sushi bars where I live. I can't imagine anything more repulsive than eating raw fish to be honest! But that may be partly due to the fact that I'm a vegetarian.

Not a word i have ever heard before, and certainly not associated with carry-outs/take-aways in the YUK as far as i'm aware...

I know the word, but am not sure that it's really common among those who don't eat Japanese food.  On the other hand, I was in a very popular Chinese shop in Manhattan yesterday, and the term "bento box" came tripping off my (mental) tongue as I was looking at all the interesting containers.

In Japanese restaurants over here, a bento box usually contains a small variety of cooked dishes (maybe a nice teriyaki), plus maybe some fruit for dessert.  The bento box is a non-sushi alternative for people who do not like sushi.

Personally, I really like sushi.  Of course I say that with baited breath.  ;)

Bento and sushi don't necessarily go together. That said, I can see how Pat might miss this one. While there are a lot of people who are familiar with Japanese food and culture, there are plenty who aren't. I already knew the word bento, but I missed it the first time it came up as common. However, I made a note of it and now miss it only 50% of the time.

Something fishy about that statement, I think.

I'm floundering for a fitting response. So I'll just say that bento was a mistake and I'll regrade it to rare in due course.

Sorry, Linda. Still, two out of three ain't bad.
