As you have already done, just jump in and question these on the forum. Sooner or later you will get a wonderfully researched and deliberated upon answer from Alan. Sometimes we manage to get these words demoted to less common status, and if not, we at least get an education.

I only know "cred" as part of British slang - the phrase "street cred."  I don't think I've ever heard it used in the US.  Nor have I ever heard or seen "crit" used, except digging into memories in my distant past, I DO remember the phrase "lit crit" but never except in that phrase.  I only know it from Chi!

Apparently I have read too many fantasy novels...

"Rend" is a very common word in the books! Probably reading science fiction, fantasy,
university textbooks and classics is not the best way to gain every-day vocabulary  >:D
