This word seems to be listed only in Webster's 1913 dictionary and WordNet. However, it is evidently a genuine word - for an animal also called the garden dormouse. Some details and a photo are on this page: http://www.planetepassion.com/loir_gris_and_lerot.htm, under an account of the "edible dormouse" (which, to my regret, is short on details about how often this animal is eaten and what it tastes like).

Anyhow, lerot will be added to our list, Pat.

Both the loir and lerot are cute little critters, aren't they?  I don't think I'd be likely to eat the loir, though maybe if there were a good recipe...

Well that's very generous of you Alan, especially as the word has an acute accent over it. I'm still amazed as to how you come up with all this information though...

Binks, I'd worked out what GAGL stood for but sometimes I see him referred to as VIRAL?

I've wondered about that too - wondered if it stood for VIRtual ALan or perhaps Very Important Really Astounding Lexicogent.  But I'm sure someone will enlighten us.
