I would have knocked 10 bells of sh*t out of him then kicked him out of the house and not let him near my kids ever again.....

I thought it was all rather lame, and certainly didn't give a very good message to those who do it....burn your laptop and you'll get away with it!!!

Not to make excuses for those watching kiddie porn, but it appears to be an addiction.  So even if he burned his computer, he'll be watching again on the next computer he buys, and maybe he'll be caught then.

Hi all
Did you know that the word "shitta" in my parents language means "rain"? The f and c word sounds are also used in words. I could rattle of the most vile swear words and you wouldnt bat an eye!
A word is just that - 1 word.
It needs to be used in context or spoken with malice or the desire to hurt to be offensive, I think.
I dont like my children to use any word in that manner.
It wasnt that long ago that bum and bloody were considered very bad - now we hear them in advertisements. Same with "bugger". I love it when some bloke says - "well I'll be buggered". I am sure they dont know what they are really asking for - maybe if they were Chi players they would find out - but maybe not if there was censorship!
I loved your story about your daughter , Bobbi. About the same age, and in a similar situation, my daughter said much the same thing. After a near miss in the car my little sweetheart very aptly piped from the back seat - "shit!"
just a few thoughts, cheers

I have a really funny photo which illustrates my point and how different cultures view our swear words, but I dont know how to upload the image - cant seem to copy it across, and my children are so impatient with me when I ask them.
Maybe one of you chi folk can help - just dont get technical, theres not enough space in my head!

I am one of the least techie people here, but I was once able to post or attach something (can't remember which) by first saving it as a document rather than a picture.

Smaug, here are some tips on including a picture in your forum message.

First, you have to make sure the picture's file size is less than 128 KB. If it is larger, see One Way of Compressing an Image File below.

Then, while you are composing your message, click on "Additional Options...", just under the panel that you type in. You should then see some new stuff, including a box labeled "Attach:". To the right of this is a button labeled "Browse..." Click this, and a window should appear that will allow you to locate your picture file on your PC. When you find it, click on the file listing and click on the "Open" button. Then you can post your message as usual.

Things like this are complicated to describe, so let me know if I've confused the hell out of you, or if it still doesn't work.

Good luck!

One Way of Compressing an Image File

If your picture is bigger than 128 kB, you need to make a compressed version on your computer first. One way of doing this on many computers running Windows is as follows. (This takes a while to describe, but only a few seconds to do.)

  • Get a directory listing that shows your picture, in Windows Explorer/My Documents, etc
  • Right click the file
  • Select "Send To"
  • Select "Mail Recipient"
  • A little window should pop up, offering to resize your picture
  • With "Make all my pictures smaller" selected, click OK
  • If all goes well, a new email message should appear, with a resized version of your photo attached
  • Don't send this message anywhere, but right click on the attachment and select "Save As..."
  • Save the file somewhere you can remember (not in the folder it came from or it will overwrite the original)
  • Finally, attach this resized photo file to a message, as described above

Hi Alan
your clear and patient explanation is appreciated. However, I do not get the 'make all my pictures smaller' message, and the file is 130kb. Perhaps we should leave it there before I start swearing!!!

Let's not give up now, Smaug.

There are other ways of shrinking image files. One fairly straightforward way is using Paint, a program that comes with Windows. You may be able to open your file with it by right-clicking, and then selecting "Open with..." If not, you can open Paint directly - on my computer, it's in "Accessories".

Once you've got your photo open in Paint, use the Image menu to go to "Stretch/Skew..." Put in something less than 100% for both horizontal and vertical stretch. Save under a new name to preserve your original version.

With regard to swear words, I think it's interesting that not every language uses sexual or religious terms to swear. In Swedish, for example, a really rude phrase is "Fi fan"(not sure of the spelling) but its literal meaning is "Iron Nails " !

Piccy Princess ! Ooooh....I'm overwhelmed by the honour. I shall no longer gnash my teeth at missing out on " Miss Eggplant 2008" or "Neighbourhood Wheeliebin Watcher of The Week".
