Here are photos of a polar bear attack on a man caught in the open.

These pictures were taken in Alaska. People watched and could do nothing to stop the attack. One person captured the terrifying scene using a telephoto lens. Reports from the local newspaper say that the victim should make a full recovery.

This is not for the squeamish, so be warned...

And a lovely contrast to the oh-too-often repeated views of an attack by a polar bear on a woman at zoo, which runs frequently as as ad to a program on animal attacks on our Animal Planet cable channel.
