Hi Pen,

Blue tried looking for gold, but it didn't pan out.

Blue used to be a hotel clerk, but then he had reservations.

Blue considered going into the ministry, but he didn't have an altar ego.

SPACER Ė change of status from rare to common. Absolutely everybody must know what a spacer isÖ

I'm sometimes unsure about how seriously to take your pronouncements, RTT. Obviously there are people who don't know what a spacer is, so it will remain rare.

Further to birdy's contribution, the online Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction identifies the word as having been used for "spaceman n.; esp. a civilian who travels or works in space" since 1937, and for a spaceship since 1939. Probably gender-neutrality wasn't a consideration in the early days. Just the genre's fondness for coining new words.

Despite these two senses, plus others in web design and surgery, I don't think the word is sufficiently well known for a change to be justified.

Usually I'm skeptical about the idea of making a new word common straight away, but I think username passes the test.

The first known use of the word was in 1971, and I imagine that during the following couple of decades most people would encounter the word at work, if anywhere. But in this century it's really taken off. It seems to have eclipsed the two-word variant.

In future username will be accepted as a common word.

Thanks for that, John! 😂
One time I pointed out some mansplaining and got a very huffy response that I was sexist 😂

It is really good to get the news that Alonzo is improving.

There are so many absentee chihuahuans that we don't get news about.  We hope that for their own reasons they have decided to discontinue their association with the forum and respect their decision.  But there is always that nagging doubt that their absence is beyond their control and as we are a community that cares, it is a cause of some sadness.

Here is a video to lift the spirits

Very well put Jack.  The video makes you smile & cheers you up :)

We have been threatened with under the stairs weather for the next couple of days, which should be interesting.  Iíll be able to postpone those chores for a few days more.

I hope I did justice to Carolís rebus suggestion.

Hi Jack

Can't believe it's Monday again already.  Think I'm in for another busy morning on fracture clinic so I'll probably be doing this post in fits & starts!

I'm very much in favour of any excuse to avoid doing chores >:D

You did a cracking job with Carol's rebus.  My simple puzzle is a book published in the 1940's by a well known British author.

For a bonus point can you please name the author who the book was dedicated to.

The public have been told to plan ahead for Christmas this year due to supply issues...
this is forcing the majority of men to bring their shopping forward to 23rd December!

A man rushed into the doctor's room & shouted "Doctor, Doctor I'm shrinking!"
The doctor looked at him & calmly said "You'll just have to be a little patient!"

It's very noisy & busy.  Roll on lunchtime...
