D'oh!  Of course they are.  I must have been staring at the screen too long.  Sometimes I expect to see a rosette when I get the 9 letter word.
Embarrassed am I.

In today's Standard game there was only 1 common word outstanding and I viewed the solution.  The word that showed up in red as the outanding Common word was in italics therefore Rare (it was a rare one too).

Is this just a glitch?

Possibly so, but truth is truth. Truth cannot really be mine or yours. It simply is.

See, that  just proves my point.  ;D

Thanks, Katzmeow. I'll try the instant polenta. Perhaps the tedium of preparing the standard stuff has influenced how I feel about the outcome. (Although I'll happily do it for risotto, risotto does seem worth the effort and polenta doesn't.)

Yes, it put me off too.  When I finally found a shop that sells the instant stuff I bought 8 packs! Probably have enough to last me a few years.  And yes, it's strange how risotto is different when it comes to all that stirring.

We eat it regularly (instant polenta only takes 3 minutes once the water has boiled), usually letting it set, reheating & slicing.  Nice base for cheese & mediterranean veges.

I was surprised it was considered a rare word.

Katzmeow, it's preferable if you don't mention a word while the puzzle is still live. It's a "spoiler" and some people get upset (though I found it quite helpful).

Oops, sorry about that.  Will try not to do it again.

Say Hello / Re: Welcome Katzmeow!

Thank you for the welcome.  I've been here a while now and am enjoying it greatly even though I sometimes get frustrated trying to get my head around the plurals rules and American spellings.  I'm grateful to those who set up and manage this site.

Darn it, got me again today with 'rapids'.  Click the definition = pural of rapid.
I don't think I'm even going to get my head(s) around this. (I can say heads plural, I'm from Tasmania  )

That just got me thinking, when tossing a coin we call 'heads' or 'tails', so would not they be permissible plurals?

Is it the same as tricep/triceps?  And for that matter bicep/biceps?  I've always thought that biceps and triceps were singular nouns and that bicep and tricep were actually popular misnomers because people assume that biceps and triceps are plurals.

Thank you for that, I've been caught out trying to play 'tricep' before.  Your explanation reminded me these are groups of muscles.

Hear, hear.  My thoughts exactly.  If glute is rare and singular, glutes surely is making a plural simply by adding the 's', so how can both be allowed?
Mind you, I am also confused that news is permitted.  Maybe I'll get the hang of these rules eventually  :-R
