Words / Re: Word suggestion: rompers

Well I hate to dampen any word suggestions however I have never heard of rompers. I’m guessing they’re pyjamas or tracksuits?

Whatever / Re: Always a moment I can’t wait for…

This is my strategy learned from many different approaches. Firstly if you’re not sure about a word, don’t play it. If it is an anagram of other common words and you’re not familiar with it, it’s probably not common. Wait until you’re down to the last two to three common words outstanding before taking any risks.
A few years ago Mike (Mkneuk or similar) told me that Chihuahua was predominantly about anagrams, but not completely of course. You need to have a good memory and walk away and come back with fresh eyes - quite often it comes to you in the car, the shower or your dreams. But certainly repetition and failure help.

Whatever / Always a moment I can’t wait for…

When I’ve failed to earn a rosette I simultaneously look forward to and dread the turnover moment for the solution to see what I’ve missed. If it’s something like BUSBIES in last night’s ten letter Grubbiness puzzle I don’t mind because I don’t think I would have ever found that!

I only found it by guessing how the letters would probably go together. I had to press on it to see the meaning. Another word added to my stupendous vocabulary 😄😄😄😄 Hee hee

Wow so many bold and quick decisions. I thought instal with one l must be American. Not so? If not then ok make it rare. Uninstall is very foreign to me but I’m not tech-savvy.

Words / Bifold - suggestion for new common word
« on: February 21, 2024, 08:10:09 PM »
Yesterday’s FORMIDABLE ten letter challenge provided the opportunity for me to play bifold. I was quite surprised it is classified as a rare word. In Australia a bifold door is a big plus real estate wise, so thought the word would crop up a lot. What say you Alan? Is bifold common enough now to be promoted or is it more often two words - bi fold. In my experience as a real estate agent it’s most often written as one word.

Great news! Pantaloons with my shirt makes more sense. So is the singular pantaloon rare or common?

Yes I would think it’s hard to wear pantaloon with your shirt.

Not a word I use but I’ve heard of it. Probably through Chihuahua mainly!

Words / Re: Twilit/Spotlit common?
« on: January 24, 2024, 09:56:06 AM »
Well that’s why we have Alan - to make all the big decisions! For what it’s worth twilit is not a word that is common to me, nor have I ever used it. I’ve only heard of it through Chihuahua (which is always a good thing to increase vocabulary) but making it rare doesn’t mean it’s not still a word! TRex’s logic is sound but that doesn’t mean all forms of a word are evenly used and well-known.

You’re on the Gold Coast Roddles! I moved from there thirty odd years ago to Canberra. We went back for a holiday last August and I couldn’t believe how bad the traffic was on the back highway. It almost made the Gold Coast Highway look fast! But yes, not much of a twilit. Actually is twilit just a shortened form of twilight?

Well with those responses it seems like more think peccary is not a commonly known word. In my household no one had heard of it. Obviously now I have and fantastic to increase my vocab however can I ask you to review the status of peccary please Alan when you get time. Thank you.
