Word Games / How hard was the EMBLAZONED game?
« on: August 08, 2021, 06:04:53 PM »
OMG missed bonemeal (apparently common - are you kidding?). But there were so many tricky words, just one too many for me. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Whatever / Well done Ash Barty and Dylan Alcott
« on: July 11, 2021, 10:13:59 AM »
Winning Wimbledon 50 years after Evonne Goolagong made dreams like this possible for an indigenous Australian a long way from England!
And maybe a Golden Slam now possible for Dylan. Very proud couch Aussie here in freezing Canberra.

Words / NIGGARDLY challenge game Sunday June 27
« on: June 28, 2021, 02:13:40 PM »
Does anyone else think it’s strange that NIGGARD was a rare word in this game when the seed word was NIGGARDLY? I’ve heard the phrase “Don’t be such a niggard,” or the like as often as I’ve heard “We had to look further AFIELD.”
Maybe the niggards are all further afield and that’s why they’re rare!!

Words / Yesterday’s Peninsular ten letter challenge game
« on: June 23, 2021, 09:40:51 PM »
Unsnarl common? Is it even a word? I’ve got to say I was gobsmacked to see it revealed in the solution. I would like to suggest it be reclassified as not even a word! Not very good English, sorry.

Whatever / Words you can’t play

Do you ever spot a fantastic word that doesn’t contain the seed letter? I hate it when that happens!

Words / Afield in yesterday’s AMPLIFIED game
« on: May 22, 2021, 03:13:31 PM »
I keep playing ‘afield’ (and that’s different to playing the field, Roddles!) and it’s classed as rare.
The phrase “We’ll have to look further afield for the right candidate for the job...” or the like is surely very well known, is it not?
I’d be interested to hear what others think and I would like Alan to class it as common.

Words / Yesterday's DISPENSER Challenge game
« on: May 06, 2021, 02:19:41 PM »
I played DIRENESS which I keep doing and then kicking myself because it's not a common word. Surely others have heard of the saying "The direness of the situation meant that...." Etc.
Is it incorrect grammar?
Why is it rare?

The Daily Quest / The MARASCHINO ten letter game
« on: April 27, 2021, 08:08:12 PM »
So hard!! Seriously SHAMANIC is classed as common? Really rolls off your tongue once every fifty years. The others I missed I can swallow but SHAMANIC, uh uh.  Anyway you live and learn with Chi!!

Why is Spelunker common and spelunk rare?

Word Games / Yesterday's NATURALISM ten letter game
« on: April 20, 2021, 09:21:35 PM »
Wow what a puzzle! I felt like every word from the last twenty to go to get a rosette were a major achievement.
It was a real brain teaser. I dreamt Talisman - very proud of that.
Missed SAURIAN and NATURISM.
Very enjoyable.

This Forum / A big thank you
« on: April 10, 2021, 06:42:04 PM »
My dear sister-in-law, Doxydaisy, just spent a night with us in the nation's capital (Australia that is) and we both said how much we love Chi. Dox introduced me and I think it helped to save my sanity. Particularly when my husband watches Antiques Roadshow and I can chill out with Chi. So thank you Alan, thank you Forumites and thanks to Dox.

The Daily Quest / Yesterday's 10 Letter Emulsifier Game
« on: March 28, 2021, 08:08:42 PM »
I didn't get one common word - MISRULE. It's hard to believe it hasn't come up whilst I've been playing over the last five years so I guess I've just missed it.  Misfire, misfile but not misrule. There wasn't many rosettes for this game. What did other's miss?

Whatever / Alan's pseudonym
« on: February 15, 2021, 08:28:45 AM »
Hi Alan - I think I've asked this before (sorry I'm an aging blonde!) - but you mentioned that **** was the last word you thought of too - do you play in the same game as us and what is your playing name? If it's a secret or you'd rather not say I understand.

Words / Actioned in yesterday's CAPTIONED challenge game
« on: January 23, 2021, 02:39:55 PM »
I was very surprised to see that ACTIONED was classed as rare. So many meetings seem to have items on the agenda to be actioned. Why is it rare?
