Greetings.
In today's 9 letter TERRORIST puzzle, Rosti is accepted.
I understand this to be a Swiss dish, similar to ( but better than ) hash browns.
In German/Swiss it is actually spelled with an umlaut O.
It is common ( as far as I know ) that a valid transliteration of Umlaut O in English is OE.
When I tried Roesti it was rejected.

Might this be worthy of consideration as a new word ?

As an ex-smoker ( about 30 a day for 25 years ) I can say it is possible to give up, without drugs, patches etc.

When the need to give up exceeds the need to smoke, it will come relatively easily.

In my case, rather than tell myself I had quit, I just said, not now, a bit later.
I won't have a cigarette now, I can wait.
Gradually extending the timing till I made it to an hour was the hard part.
Once at an hour it became a little easier.

Still, at any any stage in the first decade I could have easily taken it up again.
The second decade after stopping, was quite a bit easier.

Single Malt whisky tastes a whole better now.

It sort of reminds me of the old local joke.

In the NT ( outback ) a pale tourist was scrutinising the waters.
He asked a local "are there any crocodiles in these waters ?"
"No", was the reply.

The tourist jumped in.

The local then added "the sharks ate 'em all".

If I may put my 2 cents in ..

Most computer systems involving data, databases and data sets, use offset addressing.

Just to illuminate that;
A direct or absolute address might be something equivalent to 1234 Some Street, Somewhere.
An offset address might be something equivalent to 'x' houses up the road from 1234 Some Street, Somewhere.

Now, if you ever have a computer ( data ) glitch, you could end up in the wrong place.
If the data you are accessing is a list of words, instead of retrieving the desired word, you could end up retrieving a nearby word.
For example, instead of retrieving the 123rd word in the 'A' list, you could end retrieving say the 124th word in the 'A' list.

Thus you could see the results described.

As to what might cause the 'glitch', that's a whole other and longer topic.

I enjoy these off topic digressions.

It reminds me of a friend, an older friend, who is an avid golfer.
He came home one day from golf, and said ruefully to his wife;
"I may have to give up golf, my eyesight is deteriorating, and I cannot see where the ball lands".
His wife replied "Why don't you take my older brother along with you, sure he 80, but his eyesight is excellent".

The next week the brother-in-law duly accompanied him.

My friend hit a magnificent drive off the first tee.

"Did you see where it landed?" he asked his brother-in-law.
"Yes".
"Where?"

"I forget !" replied the brother-in law.

Hi Pat

I am fortunate to live in Melbourne.
A pity that Melbourne is not on your itinerary.
Maybe next trip.

Hi Pat

It is hot up north.
Seriously thirsty weather.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NT_Draught

A Darwin Stubby is a mere 2.27 Liters / Litres.

Light hearted Aussie humour.

They have a special humour in the NT.
Most folks up there have 2 pairs of thongs ( flip-flops ).
One casual and the other pair, formal !

Weather details, including 7 day forecasts, can be found here;
http://www.bom.gov.au

Many restaurants have a modest selection of Veg and Gluten free items.

If you enjoy a beer, take care if ordering a Stubbie in Darwin.

Enjoy your stay.

Agreed.

I am lucky enough to go out sailing most Wednesday afternoons.
There's another yacht in the fleet called Deja Vu.

Every time we pass them, some smart alec, says' 'haven't we seen them before?'

When I started that puzzle, I thought exactly the same, haven't I seen that before?

Hi Les

Thanks for the wishes.
Yes, I have a few malts opened.

Yes, typically, American and Irish whiskies use the 'e'.
Whilst Scotch and Australian ( and most others too ) whiskies don't.

The only substance I like to add to my whisky, is more whisky.
I rarely add ice or water, that's just my personal preference.

Me too.
I only rarely get a rosette.
Failing by just one, such simple word as 'fended' was a bit sad.

Another dishy word, Petri ( and oft spelled Petrie ).
Rare ?

In today's 'Exploiter' puzzle, should Peltier be a rare word ?
It is a fairly common, if somewhat technical, term for heating and cooling technology.

The amount of 'free space' on the drive is shrinking by the day. A few days ago, for example, there was '14.12 GB free of 97.1 GB'. Now there is '9.12 free of 97.1 GB' and the bar under the icon has turned red, instead of the usual blue. (The figure was 9.32 GB a few hours ago).  I've not, as far as I know, downloaded anything and stored it on the C drive.

Sadly this is a 'feature' of windows systems.
I experienced the exact same problem, a couple of years ago.
I researched it at the time.

There is a Windows system file ( I cannot recall the name right now ) that grows each day.
It does keep track of lots of system updates and info.
It continues to grow until it overwhelms your computer.

You can't just delete it, then your computer crashes.

I recall the 2 options were;

1
Back up your data.
Clean everything and start a fresh windows installation.

2
Get a newer computer.
With the expectation of experiencing this again in a few years.
