Looking at on line pictures I think it is what is known as Sprouting Broccolli in the UK. It comes in the usual green and also purple. Quite widely used in restaurants and I buy it from both supermarkets and my favourite market stall. Tastes the same as broccolli but perhaps a little milder. Good in a stir fry  or just lightly steamed as a side dish.

My reason for a lack of enthusiam for Charles is mainly because he should have stood up to his parents and chosen Camilla in the first place. Dianna had reason to be unhappy in such a marriage but I am not sure that she was as naive as many people think. She was from an old and aristocratic family not an everyday background so I think she had more than an inkling of how things might be. I strongly prefer a monarchy to the presidential system and also feel that William will make a good King. I feel we will then adopt the more relaxed form of royalty that most of the northern European monarchies have chosen. However, I am happy to say God Save The King!

Do visit Saltaire if you can. An interestng village and the galleries etc in the Mill are fantastic and the exhibition about Titus Salt is interesting. These days you could even top up on the vino whilst visiting  but watch  out for Titus turning in his grave! A few years ago they revamped the park at the side of the river and it is a nice walk on the Leeds and Liverpool canal path too.

Penny
I went to Uni in Hull and was a resident of The Lawns Halls of residence in Cottingham! 10 years earlier my brother had a room in Hallgate Cottingham when he was at the Uni. Cott was a lovely place. I believe it claimed to be the largest village in England but I think that is a widely challenged claim! Just up the road on the way to Beverley was a windmill which I discovered had a piece of machinery made by the company my father worked for from the age of 14 alongside his father and uncle. I watched the early stages of the construction of the Humber Bridge during my time there.

Penny I am glad that you enjoyed Yorkshire.Despite always being so busy I think that Haworth still manages to have a nice atmosphere and the Parsonage certainly does. We must use the Pickering line again soon as we have not been on since the line was extended. I am taking (slightly early) retirement at the end of the month so trips back to Yorkshire will be easier to fit in.

Linda. I agree that Levens Hall is lovely. We tried the relatively new tearoom a few months ago and we were a bit disappointed with the menu. We were in the time slot for sandwiches but they were a bit underwhelming for the price. These days I also find that I struggle with cafe menus as so many want to put hot spicy sauces on everything. I am not a totally plain eater but I have my limits with harissa this and sirircha (? Spelling) that. Thankfully most of the ones in Kendal still have some less spicy choices too.

I love my current home in Cumbria very much but at heart I am still and always will be a Yorkshire woman. Harrogate was my shopping destination of choice as although I'm Leeds born and bred I was never keen on the city centre in more recent times. My hubby adores Bettys but I am less keen ( He doesn't know this!). Whitby is possibly the place in Yorkshire I miss popping accross to most.Fish and chips in Whitby should be from the Magpie cafe/takeaway. Enjoy your trip Penny.

Where abouts in Leeds does your son live Linda? I was born in Middleton in south Leeds but spent most of my adult life in Horsforth and Otley.

I saw the trailer for Mc Donald and Dodds and we will probably give that a try too. Did you watch the final Montelbano last weekend? We watch those on a regular basis too. I love the buildings and scenery as I love Italy.

Hi Penny
we tried Signora Volpe last night and will watch the other 2 episodes soon . We accessed it via You Tube , never having heard of Acorn Channel and unable to find it on our TV channel list.I was a bit distracted by it having Spanish sub titles as these obscured the English sub titles when there were bits in Italian.
Funnily enough we have just finished re watching Dinnerladies for the umpteenth time too!

Happy Birthday Jack! I am not sure which is my favourite - the portrait of Bonnie or the photo of the entree!! Only joking - Bonnie wins hands down. (You take a decent photo too!!) Christine.

Hi Penny
Linda is correct and we are "friend free" in Kendal. We just have to remember not to go too near Appleby  and district  during the invasion. The latter part of it we had escaped for a short break in the Scottish Border District. Very nice.

On a  visit to Sedbergh last week we realised the visitors were early this year. Our usual parking spot has been cordoned off in previous years but this year has obviously been declared open house as they have even been provided with a portaloo.I hear that one horse has been killed on the roads already. You are wise to hibernate I think!
