Er    are you seriously telling me that people note down acceptable words in an index system?? Wow!!!!!!

Having just read your reply Pat I tried clicking on screen and yes it did allow me to type in the letters. Thank you. A computer has a mouse but a laptop has the pad with a clicker below. To me that is a mouse bar but I don't suppose it is an official name! I have no real computer skills - I just mess about and hope for the best!!

As I have said in  a previous post it is an an unexpected bonus of joining the Chi family that I am learning so many new things. The above post ( sorry but doing a quote thing is beyond my computer related abilities!) makes complete sense of why we Brits lack a comparable phrase to feedlot.  I think that there is still also an element of British head in the sand as there are some farms in the UK where dairy cows never see grass all year round.

One of the things I am still naive enough in computer terms to find fascinating is indeed the fact that I can play this game with (not against!) people from all around the world. As a result I find new words some of which are more localised than others and it is nice to find out what they mean and sometimes why they are used in one place more than others. Discussions about the words themselves is interesting but the occasional school playground "my words better than yours " is a bit saddening. Alan you seem to be a lovely man with the patience of a saint to be so diplomatic to all the contributors. Well done!

I had also  tried these variants. To me (in the UK)  they refer to a persons manner. Someone has an arsy / arsey attitude if they speak to me in a high handed , unreasonable and rude manner. Sadly as a sales person I am often on the receiving end of such bad manners!

Here in the UK we use the word conchie to mean conscientious objector and it was first used during World War 1 so at the moment (it being 100 years since the conflict began) the TV is full of documentaries etc on the War so conchies get a mention in many of the programmes.My grandad was wounded and captured at the Battle of The Somme and became a POW for the duration. I did not put the word into my chi game as I had assumed it would not be recognised. However I am beginning to see that it is really a case of if in doubt try the word!!
