I also find too high a target "outfacing" so medium sized would get my vote. Ironically on the normal Chi games I like high targets even if I don't usually achieve them. I think Allen is right about the tedium factor with the new style game but perhaps more practice is required on my part.

I don't have a lot of memories of my Grandad (First War POW from the Somme and stone deaf as a result) but the two most vivid are him frequently quoting the Yorkshire motto or him singing(out of tune of course!) " I'm Henery the Eighth I am"- his name being Harry.

No real fire sadly but still warm and snug. Actually in Kendal town we only get thin coatings of snow most years but not very far out it is much worse. Our views for most of the last week have been beautiful white vistas of the fells. Drive safely.

Being a Yorkshire lass (even if I am now "abroad" in Cumbria!) I know we can all take a joke against ourselves well. Indeed we are probably even better at coming up with them than the "outsiders"!!The last post contained an oldie but goodie.
I recommend watching bits of The Last Of The Summer Wine programmes. Stuffed full of humour and beautiful Yorkshire scenery and fantastic character actors too. Not sure mind how well some of the humour will travel but as much of it has a slapstick base ??
I hope Penny got to work safely today in her part of the country. We have had snow/sleet and rain here and the Kendalians seem to be in hibernation mode.

They certainly are more challenging. Especially as I will now often have multiple opportunities to "not see" the Big Word/s as that is my biggest weakness in the usual games!!

There is a steep stretch of cobbled road in Haworth (home of the Bronte sisters). Very pretty but it tires out many of the tourists.

Yes the "Old Grey Town" is indeed a lovely town. We are lucky enough to have an excellent view of the Castle and we are just round the corner from the Mint Cake factory. Not my thing! Far too sweet.

I no longer work in a charity shop.Over the years I have been a volunteer (for a few year alongside my late Mum) and also a paid manager and I have worked for a few different charities. The last stint was about 6 years ago and I wore myself to a frazzle. It is hard work and so difficult to get good volunteer help. They are run like businesses now and the upper management who never darken the doors of an actual shop have unrealistic expectations.I expect that I will go in as a volunteer once I am retired.
I now live in Kendal!! We came here with a view to retirement and now both work part time in shops until we can shake off the shackles! Today we were both off work together and along with our dog found ourselves by 9.30 crossing Lake Windermere on the chain ferry on our way to do a lovely 7 mile walk. Roll on retirement.

I would hazard a guess Penny that folk are the same all over! I am a Yorkshire woman but now reside in Cumbria so I suppose my experience of peoples charitable donations is firmly northern. I will also say that I also had the most delightful surprises when I opened some bags and a few were worth a lot of money. I think my top selling donation netted the charity over £200 at auction.

I have been a volunteer and a paid manager in a few different Charity Shops over the years and what arrives in some of the donation bags also beggars belief and yes it does include used nappies , soiled undies and many other items. A delightful surprise every time so my sympathies to the fatberg removers.

Sadly there will be no more without the lovely Peter Sallis. By the way Happy New Year to all the contributors to the Forum - frequent or like me occasional.

I don't suppose it was always as "voluntary" as it was made out to be.
