Sorry, Pen, not enough information there for me to use sleep time on the rebus.

I couldn’t help myself. The second word has five letters. A baby born in the year the film was made would have been 20 by the time you were born.

I just need a visit from Blue and I'll be a very happy bunny  ;)

Hi Pen,

Blue stories aren't all that easy to come by without researching back into the archives and trusting your bad memory.  >:D

Blue did explain to me how to tell an ignorant person.  It's someone who doesn’t  know the thing you just found out.
Blue used to be scared of hurdles٫ but he got over it.  He says he prefers the English spelling of diarrhea which is diarrhoea because it really looks like you have lost control of your vowels.

A long time ago, Blue decided to join the army.  Towards the end of the first week, the senior drill instructor realised that Blue had gone AWOL. A search party was dispatched immediately. After a few hours, Blue was discovered hiding in some bushes. He was sent back to the base and promptly escorted to the drill instructor's office.

The instructor asked Blue, "Why did you go AWOL?"

Blue replied, "My first day here you issued me a comb, and then proceeded to cut my hair off. The second day you issued me a toothbrush, and sent me to the dentist, who proceeded to pull two teeth. The third day you issued me a jock strap, and I wasn't about to stick around and find out what would follow that, SIR."

Blue does some funny things.  He tried to become a maths teacher but he would only teach subtraction because he wanted to make a difference.  He used to play the triangle in a Reggae band but he left because it was just one ting after another.

I would also like to know if anybody else had a problem with it.
It would be interesting to find out if others found it as difficult as I did.

Hi Pen,

This inspired me to make my rebus today a quotation often attributed to the author of The One Minute Manager.  He was concerned that he might be accused of plagiarism and so in turn, attributed it to a colleague.

Word 1 ( 8 ). Picture 1 which is a mini rebus.  You have to solve it.
Word 2 ( 2 ). Picture 2.  How is your Spanish?  Pick yes and reverse the letters.
Word 3 ( 3 ). Picture 3.
Word 4 ( 9 ).  Picture 4.  Take my word for it, it is a full English.
Word 5 ( 2 ).  Picture 5.  Even in Spanish, you can recognise the object.
Word  6 ( 9).  Picture 6.  Whatever the contest I think you are in this league.

I am going to take a break for a long lunch.

My rebus today is a film which is older than I am.

Hi Pen,

I enjoyed your rebus.

I was in short trousers and walking barefoot to school when your film was made.  I must watch it

I have been remiss in seeking out pickles.

While I was looking for one, I came across a Brian Bilston post which I think he may have been directing at me.

I’m fed up with people pointing out all the mistakes in my poetry so I’ve written them this poem; it’s called ‘Pedants’.

Did I tell you my grandkids call me grumps.

Must try for a couple of hours shut-eye.  :-Z :-Z :-Z

Have you watched Platypus Guardian, (available on ABC iview)? Released in 2023, filmed in Hobart, Tasmania.
I really enjoyed it and found it to be both informative and entertaining.

Hi Moyra,

I found this when I was curious about Alan's latest post.  Somehow I had missed it and was chagrined that I had not responded.

No, I haven't seen it but will follow it up.  As a penance, I asked ET to write a poem for you.

This Zoo Is Not for You

In a zoo where the moon danced with the stars,
A sign hung crookedly, etched in whimsical bars:
“This Zoo Is Not for You,” it boldly declared,
As if secrets and wonders were carefully shared.

The giraffes wore top hats, their necks stretched high,
Conversing in riddles under the twilight sky.
The pandas sipped tea, balancing on one paw,
Their black-and-white elegance a silent awe.

The lions recited sonnets to the moon’s soft glow,
Their roars transformed into verses, ebb and flow.
And the platypus? Ah, the platypus was the key—
A creature of contradictions, both land and sea.

Its bill held secrets whispered by ancient trees,
While webbed feet tapped rhythms in hidden seas.
“This Zoo Is Not for You,” it seemed to say,
Yet curiosity tugged hearts, urging them to stay.

The flamingos waltzed, their pink feathers ablaze,
Their delicate legs tracing patterns in moon-hazed days.
And the lemurs? They swung from star to star,
Chasing constellations, leaving trails afar.

But who was the “you” forbidden from this place?
Perhaps dreamers and wanderers seeking grace,
Or those too tethered to mundane reality,
Yearning for magic beyond mere normality.

So step lightly, my friend, through this enchanted gate,
Where the platypus grins, and time hesitates.
For in a zoo where the moon dances with the stars,
The sign whispers secrets: “This Zoo Is Ours.”

You know me Jack - don't want to make it to easy  >:D  At least I managed to get the instructions right this time!!

Hi Pen,

I didn't use the instructions to get the answer.  I was completely flummoxed and it was the middle of the night and I needed my beauty sleep, so I cheated.  The answer was the only one that satisfied the word count.  Now I had the answer I could verify the instructions were technically right if you made the right assumptions.   It would be interesting to find out if others found it as difficult as I did.

You didn't say whether you solved my last rebus.

By the way when I did a google picture search on the rodent, it did give two possibilities.

Hi Pen.

I think I've got it but the use of the definite article is a bit sneaky  ;D  Are you sure that rodent is not a golden hampster?  >:D

My rebus is the first line of a song I heard on the radio earlier.  It was a hit in the 1970's.

Please use the character on the right in picture one and make a homophone.  Lose the middle three letters of picture three two and make another homophone.  Please drop the last two letters of picture three and reverse what you have left.  Please reverse picture four and pretend it's all on one line.

For those looking at the problem before Pen gets back online,  I have made a correction which gave me an answer.

As an added clue, I will say the first word of the answer I got was the name of a biblical prophet.

I expect that Carol will have got this because the group that made the song famous had one more dog than her  :D

Please ignore the dick dicks in picture eight. (sorry blame Barbs for that!)

Hi Pen,

Now you have explained it, others beside you can see that it helped decode the clue.  In a way, your rebus gave me the inspiration for mine.  It is a nonfiction book on empathy.

Word 1 ( 3 ). Picture 1 ( 8 ). Use the first letters and reverse them.

Word 2 ( 8 )
   Component 1 ( 5 ). Picture 2 ( 4  ).  Make homophone.
   Component 2 ( 3 ). Picture 3

Word 3 ( 2 ). Picture 4 (  6  ).  Use chemical symbol (atomic number 28) of homophone.  Reverse letters.

Word 4 ( 5 ).
   Component 1 ( 3 ). Picture 5 (  6  ).  Use first letters.
   Component 2 ( 2 ). Picture 6 (  4  ).  Use first letters.

Word 5 ( 5). Picture 7.

Further clues and any corrections available, if needed.

No problem working out your rebus but what are Dick Dicks. Never heard of it

Hi Pen,

I am not feeling like being original today, so I have dug into the archives and brought a few items up to date.

Blue came home from the Redland Bay pub feeling no pain and full of bravado to find Sheila watching a Gordon Ramsay cooking program on the TV. He thought unwisely he would have a bit of fun.

Blue: Watcha watching that for?  You can’t cook worth a damn.

Sheila: So what.  You watch porn movies, don’t you?

Toastmasters International (TI) is a US-headquartered nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping people develop communication, public speaking, and leadership skills.  In 1973, Toastmasters International officially recognized women’s right to participate freely in the organization. This marked a significant milestone. Toastmasters International has continued to evolve, and today, it is a diverse and supportive community.  Today, Women hold leadership positions, participate in speech contests, and contribute significantly to the organization.

At one toastmaster’s meeting, Blue gave a speech on the topic of sex, but as he thought Sheila wouldn’t approve he told her the talk was about sailing.  The next day one of Sheila’s friends told her how much she enjoyed Blue's talk.

Sheila said "I don't know what he knows about it, he only tried it twice. The first time he was sick as a dog and the second time his hat blew off".

Blue has been elected Choirmaster at his local church.  Last Sunday, the minister gave a sermon on the evils of drink.  With great emphasis he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river." Then with even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river." And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he shouted, "And if I had all the whisky in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river." With the sermon complete, he sat down.

Then Blue jumped up and announced, "For our closing song, let us sing Hymn number 365, "Shall We Gather at the River."

Was this the uncle you were referring to?

I've had a busy morning and I'm just enjoying a cuppa while I do my post  :)

Hi Pen,

Another great rebus.  You do a great job despite being so busy.

We, too, have been a bit run off our feet for the past couple of days clearing up the jungle between the pool and street behind it, and doing minding duties for the Cleveland mob, and today is going to be even more hectic.  So this is going to be a quick post between trips down the hall  ;D

Do you remember in the COVID panic they used to take your temperature on your forehead as you enter the supermarket.  Blue swears it erased his memory.  He went to Woolworths for macaroni and cheese and came home with two cases of beer and a bag of crisps.

Blue opened a dry-cleaning business next door to the convent.  He knocked on the door and asked the Mother Superior if she had any dirty habits.

Blue was a bit short of cash so I hired him to do some handy man jobs and gave him a list. When I inspected his work, only items 1, 3, & 5 on my list were done.  Turns out, he only does odd jobs.

My offering today is a book from the 18th century and also a telly series.

Hi Pen,

Quote from: Internet Archive (redacted)

***** ********'s immortal trilogy, containing **** ****, **** ** **********, and ********** *****, is a heartwarming portrayal of country life at the close of the 19th century. This story of three closely related Oxfordshire communities - a hamlet, the nearby village and a small market town - is based on the author's experiences during childhood and youth. It chronicles May Day celebrations and forgotten children's games, the daily lives of farmworkers and craftsmen, friends and relations - all painted with a gaiety and freshness of observation that make this trilogy an evocative and sensitive memorial to Victorian rural England

Trilogy originally published in 1945

The three books were published before the trilogy which has the title of your rebus.

Two Historians have written a book about the original books.

They claim the town in the titles contains elements of Bicester, Banbury, Buckingham and Brackley.  t sounds like something out of "My Fair Lady" but they should be familiar to you

Neither Historian  was particularly impressed by the BBC adaptation of the trilogy, saying it had several historical inaccuracies and softened or ‘prettified’ the life of those depicted.

It was a very clever rebus, Pen, but it needs a bit of editing in the Introduction.

I’ve spent all morning unsuccessfully trying to get the last word in the 7-by-many and I’m knackered.  After a good lunch and a swim,  I might find the motivation to return with a rebus.  It could be injurious to your health to hold your breath while you are waiting. :D

I am still enjoying Beyond Paradise
I've probably mentioned it before but have you watched Murder in Provence
Signora Volpe?
Have we got many sensitive souls who tune into our conversations?

Hi Pen,

First to the quotes above:

We watched the first episode and put it into the category of "We will only watch it if desperate".   If you can tell me it improves, we might give it another chance.

You did. We watched it to the last episode at that time and wanted more.  It has just started on our ABC and we are keen enough to watch it through again.

Great entertainment.  We are hanging out for the next series.

I don't know if they are sensitive, but I hope there are plenty of them, otherwise we may as well do all of our conversations by email.  It would be good if more of them would join in the conversation with us or between themselves on a regular basis.  However, we get enough positive feedback to warrant us keeping our public conversation going for the time being. .

My rebus is a 1938 film.

Word 1 ( 8 ).  Say the components quickly.  Then spell correctly.
  Component 1 (2).  Picture 1.  Doesn’t matter how it’s spelt, It’s how it sounds.
  Component 2 (3).  Picture 2.
  Component 3 (3).  Picture 3.
Word 2 (#).  Picture 4 (5). But don’t worry about what it is called, the answer you want is the type of person who lives inside.
               # 8 or 9 depending on whether you are using an English or American dictionary.
