Dear Alan:

Just living in the past, I guess. Thanks for bringing my post into the present.

Dear Forumites:

Is the term 'relo' a common one anywhere but in the US? It's real estate agent talk for 'relocation' and fairly common here.

Whatever / Re: Happy birthday, nineoaks

Dear Steadyguy:

I am notorious for sending 'belated' b'day wishes. So much so that my family has come to understand that I celebrate the 'birthday season,' not the day :)
I'll accept any and all good wishes!!

Thanks,

Dear Chi-friends:

Thanks so very much for all the thoughtful birthday wishes.

I did have a lovely day. My students threw a surprise party for me. I teach mostly (adult) Spanish speakers, and one of the perks is never being allowed to pay for dinner in any local Mexican restaurant :). However, yesterday was extra-special: the whole restaurant was reserved for us! Delicious birthday posole, lots of good cheer, chatter and friendship.

Now, if I could just think of the one remaining common word for today's Chi!

Thanks again, and all best wishes to each of you,

Nineoaks

Dear Pat:

If you go to bestapples.com (which is the website of the Washington Apple Commission), and, under Apple Info, choose 'apple varieties', you will see photos of nine apple varieties grown there.

Our local paper showed a photo from the 1910 Watsonville Apple Show. There, 12 growers from our small county in the Sierra Nevada foothills (Tuolumne County, California), displayed 52 varieties of apples!

A few independent growers here are preserving some of those heirloom varieties, but, alas, most are gone.

Best wishes,

Petra

Dear Pat:

Well, so far, it's unanimous: /ray-neer/, with the accent on the second syllable.

Best wishes,

Petra

Dear All:

What do others think of 'minimart' as an acceptable word for today's standard puzzle?

All best wishes,
