Word Games / Re: Uppercase for all words

Thank you both!!! That was so horrible. But such an easy fix. :)
I'm well thanks Alan, how about you and Viz?
Looking forward to a break soon. As an OT, I worked right through the lockdown, and in fact worked a lot harder then normal, because I have colleagues who are immune-compromised, meaning they had to stand down for the duration. This has been a VERY interesting year!

Word Games / Uppercase for all words

Hi all,
This is a new look and I dislike it intensely. I would be very happy to have only the "big" word desplayed in all uppercase. Other thoughts and opinions?

We Kiwis thought this was pretty hilarious. To prove a point, our nightly current affairs programme 7Sharp put together some snippets from romantic movies, to demonstrate just how incredibly sexy we sound (not!)

5/10 American
10/10 British

New Zealand is still a close British colony!

Agreed, even uric was rare, while uremic was common.

You may have some malware. A small free programme called Malwarebytes will tell you if you have a problem. Don't bother paying for the upgrade. It's generally easy enough to delete any dodgy programmes it finds by yourself.

Sending positive thoughts your way, and wishing you a good outcome plus a speedy recovery from the surgery.

It's simple really - if you get stuck, go find a ten year old to help you. Works for me every time!  :D

Whatever / Re: Brexit
« on: June 29, 2016, 12:33:41 PM »
We have watched Brexit from Kiwiland with interest tinged with horror. It would seem that the UK has a similar population demographic to the USA (conservative racists voting for Trump.) It is simply astounding that the most popular Google searches in the UK the day AFTER the referendum results were announced were along the lines of What are the consequences of leaving the EU? and even What is the EU?

Nigel Farage publicly apologised to New Zealand for abandoning us back in 1973 when the UK joined the then Common Market. He said that we should be delighted that we can now settle back to negotiating great trading terms with the UK. Well sorry Nige, those apron strings are cut. We have new markets and the few trading agreements we did have left with the UK included some wonderful entrees into Europe for us. We will now have to do a lot of hard bargaining with the EU from scratch should all this go through. So no, we are not delighted, we are appalled, and the last thing we want to do is to renegotiate trade deals with the UK.

Anyone wanting a crash course in Brexit, and what it means for the UK, for Europe and for the rest of the world, can watch John Oliver's entertaining video clips on YouTube. Very funny, but also astute political analysis.

Scroggin is yummy. Our favourite mix is dried apple, raisins, craisins (dried cranberries) with cashews, and almonds, plus some roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds. It's very moreish, and in my tramping experience is generally all finished within the first hour of a tramp, no matter how big the bag. Therefore, its advisable to  parcel it up into small ziplock bags, and then bury those at the very bottom of the rucksack, where they are not easily accessible while walking.

Here in Kiwiland, we call them jandals. This is a contraction of Japanese and sandals apparently.

The Toyota Bugger ad is actually a Kiwi ad. It was made in 1999 by Saatchi and Saatchi, New Zealand. There were 120 complaints made to the Advertising Standards Authority, who decided that is was unlikely to cause offence. Naturally, because the ad was so good, it was eventually used to promote the Toyota Hilux ute in Australia as well, where apparently only one complaint was lodged :)

There is a whole back story / in joke in New Zealand, that makes the joke even funnier if you know anything about a very well known Kiwi cartoon strip Footrot Flats starring sheep farmer Fred Dagg and his dog.

When Hercules the dog who starred in the bugger ad died suddenly of a heart attack in 2004, it made headline news in New Zealand.

I believe it's quite common in New Zealand, the home of 'fush and chups'.  ;D
LMAO
