Horrible and grossly irresponsible! Despite widespread insistence on curbing the use of antibiotics because it helps create 'superbugs', the new government wants to dispense them freely? Stupid. Stupid! STUPID!!

Never heard of it. Definitely not common in my book.

I'm still trying to work out the difference between cloudy & overcast

Temperature-wise, it was great (down to 40°F/4.4°C); allergy-wise, not so good. I'm torn between wanting a good freeze to eliminate allergens and wanting some warmer weather for my tomato plants!

Although I've forgot much of my training because I haven't used it for thirty years, IIRC we were taught that sky observations were supposed to be based on (estimated) eighths of the sky*: seven-eighths or more was considered 'overcast' regardless of how dense the cloud cover was; one-eighth to seven-eighths was 'partly cloudy' or 'partly sunny' ('partly sunny' only used during daytime); one-eighth or less was 'clear' or 'fair'.

* the sky does not include areas blocked by trees, land elevations (natural obstacles), but does include areas blocked by man-made structures (never really understood the why for that); our observations were made from the top of the airport's control tower in flat Illinois, so there was little in the way of natural obstacles.

I believe weather observations are pretty standardised internationally, but perhaps there are some terminology variations used for public information.

Coincidently (as far as this thread goes, but perhaps part of the the subliminal influence) when I just went to get a drink I noticed that there is an unused pot of dip left over from McDonald's on the kitchen table. See attached.

After several nice days, we turned the air conditioning back on here. Current outdoor temp is 92°F/33.3°C and the humidity pushes the heat index to 99°F/37.2°C 

We try (and are usually successful) to not turn on furnace until November. During heating season we keep the thermostat at 62°F/16.6°C during the day and 58°F/14.4°C at night.

The word jumped out at me immediately. The fact that my mother-in-law served as a sacristan for a number of years might have helped.
