Words / craic
« on: October 24, 2012, 05:35:22 AM »
craic :  or "crack", is a term for news, gossip, fun, entertainment, and enjoyable conversation, particularly prominent in Ireland and Scotland . It is often used with the definite article – the craic

We do, after all, enjoy a lot of craic on these forums!  Please could it be considered for inclusion (as a rare word, of course).

Sorry to hear of your loss, but pleased you were all still nearby and that she had family beside her at the end.

Am I the only one here anxiously awaiting the news of the "Live Album" of A non-amos & friends becoming available from a download site, sometime soon?

Originally a Scottish Gaelic word, which means house, but in very common use in Scotland as an anglicized word.  And one I seem to play every time the letter combo presents itself, before kicking myself once again.  Just as well I don't stress about my %age.

I wouldn't suggest it be added to Chi as a common word, but it would be nice to see it accepted as rare.

Um...  the account details for logging on to Chi and onto the Forum can be different - so the passwords might also be different.

I log in to Chi using my handle, CB

But logging on to the forum I use my email address, and a different password.  (I'm nerdy enough to actually use a different password for every site I visit.)

Good luck!

To check you haven't turned off automatic sign in, once you are signed in, under your Player ID (above the scoreboard) click on Details, and "Sign in automatically" should be ticked - if it isn't you need to tick it again.

The other thing you need to check is that you have Cookies enabled for this site (and most others where you want it to sign you in).

This will depend on which browser you are using.  If latest Firefox, go to Tools, Options, Privacy, and make sure it says Cookies are being remembered.  If that is OK then it is possible your cookies have gotten corrupted - in which case it is worth deleting the cookies for the offending site and letting the computer recreate them.  In Firefox, again, you go to Tools, Options, Privacy, Remove individual cookies, put chihuahua into the search box, and then delete any cookies that appear.  Then log in to Chihuahua again and hopefully the newly created cookie will then keep you logged in.

If you are not running the latest version of Firefox, or are running a different browser, the procedure will be slightly different - if you let me know what you are using I will try to see if I can find the relevant steps for you.

You have indeed been missed.  Sorry you've had such a tough time.  Glad to see you pop back and hope to see more of you soon.

I gotta say, I'm comfortable with both those being common.

Me too!  I had reached the stage of flinging letters together in plausible but unheard of sequences, just to try it, and was totally surprised when it was accepted.  I had to look it up in the dictionary afterwards to find the meaning.

I am one of the aficionados of Firefox but I also use Chrome a lot these days.

I would suggest that one of the first things you could try to solve the FF problems would be to clear your cache - that is the saved copies of web pages which FF stores to speed up the re-loading of pages you have visited previously.  Sometimes, the cached version can have a glitch and the cached verions causes that page to continue to experience the glitch, even when the actual page has been fixed.

To clear your cache, assuming you have a fairly up-to-date version of FF, go to Tools / Clear Recent History (or CTRL + Shift + Del on a PC)  and then UNTICK all the choices EXCEPT Cache.  Click Clear Now.

If the problem persists, do the same again, but this time also clear Offline Website Data.

If it still persists, post back here and I'll suggest another couple of options.

Me too.  Though they tend to make me feel rather ashamed of my own, comparatively inadequate, culinary attempts.
