Whatever / Missing players
« on: February 09, 2019, 10:55:07 AM »
Are there any further updates on Alonzo?  His continued absence from the game is worrying.

And what's happened to Les?  ???

Words / Word suggestion: fracked
« on: February 04, 2019, 11:29:21 AM »
Frack appeared in yesterdays standard puzzle as a rare word.  I also tried fracked but it was rejected.  Frack is a verb (referring to the process of hydraulic fracturing) and is acknowledged as such in most dictionaries, so fracked should also be acknowledged as a legitimate word.  I'm not sure if fracking is currently allowed in Chi, but if not, I'd suggest it should be.

Words / Jailor?
« on: December 26, 2018, 10:26:32 PM »
This word cost me a rosette in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle.  I've never seen it spelt that way before.  Is that spelling really common?

Words / Word suggestion: earbud

I tried earbud in a recent puzzle but it wasn't allowed.  A modern word worth adding, I think.

Words / Momento
« on: December 02, 2018, 09:49:00 PM »
Momento appeared as a rare word in yesterday's standard puzzle.  The Wiktionary definition is given as "misspelling of memento."  Call me a pedant if you like, but in my view, misspellings are not proper words and should not be included.  And that includes deliberately stylised misspellings like nite and lite that we so often see in advertising.

Word Games / Player stats suggestion
« on: November 22, 2018, 06:31:46 PM »
I imagine that quite a few players set their personal targets according to the various scoring milestones (good, better, best, maven, cham).  For those people it would be useful to know how frequently they hit the target, so a stat that shows the number of times each player reaches each milestone and the percentage of games where each milestone is reached might be useful.

Personally, I usually end up somewhere between best and maven.  From time to time I get to maven level and very occasionally some of the way towards cham.  I'd be interested to know how often I get to maven level.  This would be, for me, another target for year-on-year improvement.

What do others think?  Of course, such an innovation would be dependent on it being technically possible (I don't have a clue about such things).

Words / Word suggestion: pervy
« on: November 09, 2018, 07:21:58 PM »
I tried pervy in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle but no dice.  Pervier and perviest were also there but I didn't try them because pervy wasn't accepted.  A quick search showed that pervy appears in at least seven online dictionaries including the Oxford.  Worth adding to the Chi list, I think, along with the comparative and superlative forms.

Words / Fogie/fogies
« on: November 01, 2018, 09:38:49 PM »
I missed fogies in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle.  The reason I didn't play it was that I'd already played fogie, which came up as a rare word.  I assumed that fogies would not be allowed under the plural rule.  Surely if fogie is allowed, fogies should not be.

Word Games / Scoreboard not working
« on: October 31, 2018, 06:49:42 PM »
The scoreboard seems to be not working on the chihuahua-puzzle.com site.  Only my own score is appearing.  This has been the case all day today.

Words / Word suggestion: mailout
« on: August 23, 2018, 08:40:18 PM »
I tried this unsuccessfully in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle.  Although it's more often written as mail out or mail-out, it is listed as a single word in several dictionaries and I've seen it written that way in corporate settings quite frequently.  I'd suggest adding it as a rare word.

The Daily Quest / A new record!
« on: July 27, 2018, 10:31:34 AM »
By my reckoning, yesterday's standard puzzle smashed the previous record for the number of rosettes achieved.  235 players got rosettes in that game.  I think the previous record was 130-something or thereabouts.

Words / Worshiped
« on: June 23, 2018, 06:33:49 PM »
It's little wonder that only 7% of players got worshiped in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle.  Clearly it's an uncommon spelling.  I remember a couple of years ago a similar issue arose with the word kidnaped.  Alan subsequently reclassified it as rare.  I think worshiped should be treated the same way.

Words / Pend
« on: June 22, 2018, 06:29:48 PM »
Pend comes up pretty frequently.  It's classified as rare, but I think there's a case for making it common.  It's certainly common to me, and so it seems to the vast majority of players.  In yesterday's standard puzzle it was played by 542 of 634 players.  In fact, it was the seventh most frequently played word in the puzzle and was played more often than most of the common words.

Words / Word suggestion: longlist
« on: April 28, 2018, 06:41:48 PM »
I tried this word in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle, but no dice.  It's in quite a few dictionaries in this form (also as two words and hyphenated) and I've heard and read it pretty frequently in connection with things like literary awards.  It's also used in recruiting.  Worth adding to the list I think, along with longlisted.

Words / A hairy issue
« on: April 04, 2018, 10:13:20 AM »
Yesterday's standard puzzle included the words pube (rare) and pubes (common).  Pube was added to the list of acceptable words following a suggestion from a forumite in 2013.  Presumably, until then pubes was treated in the same way as words like suds and odds - as a kind of pseudo plural without a singular form.  My issue is this: If we now accept that pube is a word, doesn't that invalidate pubes as an acceptable word on the grounds that it's a regular plural?
