Words / Copula common?
« on: October 08, 2021, 09:43:16 PM »
Found by less than 5% of players in the recent SPACIOUSLY game.  It's certainly not common to me (and it cost me a rosette).  A strong candidate for reclassification in my view.

Words / Encomium common?
« on: September 02, 2021, 06:30:44 PM »
Found by just 7% of players in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle.  Definitely not common in my view.  Wouldn't have got it in a million years!

Words / Workfare common?
« on: September 01, 2021, 10:43:27 AM »
Found by only 8.9% of players in the recent FRAMEWORK game.  I did eventually get it, but was very surprised it was common.  It's certainly not common to me.

Words / Recook/recooked
« on: July 29, 2021, 06:38:51 PM »
From yesterday's OVERCOOKED puzzle:  Recook - rare; recooked - common.  Seems inconsistent to me.  I'd suggest both should be common.

Whatever / An anniversary
« on: July 07, 2021, 07:50:09 AM »
Today is the tenth anniversary of my becoming a Chi player/addict - a decade of elation, frustration, fun, challenge and learning.  I can't imagine my life without it.  I'm happy to say that I've managed to improve my rosette tally each year so far - hopefully I can keep doing that for a while yet.

Thank you, Alan, for making it possible, and thank you forumites for making it entertaining and educational.  :)

Words / Negatived?
« on: May 13, 2021, 07:12:42 AM »
Negatived was the seed word in yesterday's Challenge puzzle.  I did eventually get it, after initially dismissing it as a non-word.  I can't say I've ever seen or heard it before.  I'm not even sure how you'd use it in a sentence.  Negative isn't a verb, is it?  It was played by fewer than half the players in that game, so I'd question whether it's a common form of the word.  It's certainly not common to me.

Words / Word suggestion: merch
« on: April 27, 2021, 08:38:21 AM »
I tried merch (short for merchandise) in the recent CHIMERICAL game, bit no luck.  It's a term that's become quite common in recent years and is listed in most contemporary dictionaries.  Worth adding to the Chi lexicon in my view.

Words / Roster/rostered
« on: March 28, 2021, 10:31:30 AM »
From yesterday's Challenge puzzle:  Roster - common, rostered - rare.  That seems odd to me.  Surely if you know the word roster, you'd also know rostered.  Both should be common, I think.

Words / Nimby common?
« on: March 16, 2021, 11:30:15 AM »
This is an acronym which is certainly not in the same category as words like scuba and radar which have evolved into words in their own right.  Not surprisingly, played by only 9% of players.  A strong candidate for reclassification in my view.

Words / Meerkat
« on: March 05, 2021, 07:26:58 PM »
I played meerkat in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle and was surprised that it came up as rare.  I was also surprised to find that only about 15% of players found it.  Obviously it's a hard word to spot.  Nonetheless, I reckon pretty much everyone knows what a meerkat is, so I'd argue that it should be a common word.

Words / Word suggestion: shroom
« on: December 23, 2020, 07:25:35 PM »
From the recent MUSHROOMED game - shroom is a term for those so-called 'magic mushrooms' (the hallucinogenic kind).  It's in several dictionaries.  Worth adding as a rare word in my view.

Words / Racoon/raccoon
« on: December 01, 2020, 09:33:44 PM »
Racoon appeared as a common word in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle.  I got it this time after missing it in an earlier puzzle.  Dictionaries list it as a variant spelling of raccoon (which I presume is also common in Chi).  It seems odd to me that a variant spelling would be classified as common.  I've only ever seen it written as raccoon.  As a general principle, I think most variant spellings should be classified as rare.  Of course, there are no raccoons in my part of the world, so maybe racoon is a common variant elsewhere.

Words / Baldie/baldies
« on: October 22, 2020, 07:30:10 PM »
One of the words I missed in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle was baldies.  I didn't play it because I'd already played baldie which was accepted.  Surely if baldie is accepted, baldies cannot be accepted because of the plurals rule.  It didn't cost me a rosette, but it's still rather annoying.

Words / Rehire/rehired
« on: June 16, 2020, 07:19:02 AM »
From the recent HEREDITARY game: Rehire (common), rehired (rare).  I can't see why they should be classified differently.  Both common, I'd suggest.

Words / Cloistral common?
« on: May 25, 2020, 09:35:11 PM »
Found by only 27 of 336 players in yesterday's 10 letter puzzle.  It's certainly not common to me!
