These were the three words I missed in yesterday's MENOPAUSAL game.  They're certainly not common to me, and judging by the tiny number of players who got them, they're not common to very many people.  All three should be reclassified in my view.

Alan, to formalise discussions in the "Always a moment I can't wait for..." thread, could you please review the status of busby, busbies and begrime with a view to making then rare.

Thanks Alan.  :)

Ditto, Jacki!  Although I do rather resent the inordinate amount of time I wasted looking for a word that would never have occurred to me in a million years!

Not accepted in yesterday's AMPLIFYING game.  It's listed in several dictionaries (Cambridge, Merriam-Webster, Collins, dictionary.com).

I'm surprised that instal is so rarely used.  I've always thought it was the British/Australian version of the word and install was the American version.  So I've always been happy with both versions being common.

Word Games / 2023 Stats

For those interested, Alan has now posted the end-of-year player stats for 2023.

I'm happy to say that I managed to improve my rosette tally for the 12th consecutive year, as well as achieving my highest ever ranking (proof that while my body may be getting older and creakier, the old brain cells are still going strong!)

I think agreeance is (or was) a grammatical error which has passed into common usage, much like normalcy.

I missed it, though I have heard it before.  I think it has even come up once or twice in Chi puzzles.  I think it's probably common among younger people, but not among older people.

Yes, it was certainly a challenging puzzle.  I managed to get within one word of a rosette (I missed abjure) and was pretty pleased with that effort.  Congratulations to the three players who did get rosettes - kiwihine, Rhino and starfish.

I know that feeling so well!  I think we all do it from time to time.  There are many times when I've spent ages looking for a final complex or tricky word to get a rosette and then found I'd missed a really simple one.

It's not just you, Jacki.  I've found them challenging as well and have missed rosettes in about half of them this month.

Found by less than 10% of players in yesterday's INSATIABLY puzzle.  Not a word I've ever seen or heard before.  Although its meaning is pretty obvious, I can't think of too many scenarios where you might actually use it.  Worthy of reclassification in my view.

I was also surprised it wasn't common.

Isn't doing a second job called moonlighting rather than moonshining?
