my wife (redridinghood) used to drive an early (1990) Mazda Miatas. Her friends used to jokingly referred to it as her “Miasma”.

I thought it was a trick puzzle at first, because a list of words can't have anything "in common" except with another list or lists. A better way of of putting it would have been 'what do the words in the list below have in common?"

I too find the morning the best time to get missed common words from the night before. I typically spend about 45 minutes before bedtime doing the 9-letter puzzle. Important to get at least the 9-letter word before turning the light out so that I can work on other words in my head later, mistakenly thinking that it will help me get back to sleep during the night if needed. It doesn't - - keeps me awake instead. But often get a few more words that way, which I will forget in the morning unless I string them into a crazy sentence and memorize it. Have tried entering words with the light off at odd hours but the screen light on my iPad wakes redridinghood next to me!

I'm with you too. Puzzles have indeed been more difficult lately, and my wife (redridinghood)  agrees.  Been one or two words shy so many times, only to discover I had missed the easiest ones (got FREED but not FREE!). As the puzzles get more challenging, I tend to look for longer words first. Will go back to putting in the easy ones first,  then adding letters (past tense, plurals in -ies or ii, prefixes  & suffixes etc.). Or setting a limit/goal, either time spent or number of common words found. Bonne chance et bon courage!

The term is used frequently in art history classes and books to describe painting style of artists like Van Gogh, Renoir, Pissarro, Sargent, etc. As an art history student I found the term much overused.

Words / Re: vocab
« on: March 02, 2019, 09:38:27 AM »
Well I didn't get vocab and was surprised it's classed as common. When I discussed it with my better half (hee hee T-Rex) he immediately said "That's an abbreviation."  I know there are other words that are probably in this category however I do think the widespread use of the word merits it's common status and I can't remember the last time I said or heard someone say vocab - although of course I've heard of it. Shouldn't even be allowed in the game at all.
Jacki,  I don't follow. Are you saying it "merits it's (sic) common status" or shouldn't be allowed at all?
Cordially but confused....
Tom
