Words / Empanelled inconsistency?
« on: February 28, 2024, 03:21:49 PM »
In yesterday's EMPANELLED/NAPALMED 7-by-Many, empanelled was classed as common (and a seed word), while empaneled and empanel were rare.

I may be wrong in thinking that players in the US would always use the single 'l' spelling empaneled, but I'd like to suggest that if empanelled is common, empanel at least should also be classed as common.

Words / Word suggestion 'chatbot'
« on: February 14, 2024, 04:34:05 PM »
'Chatbot' was rejected outright in yesterday's COHABIT 7-by-many.

AI is here to stay, and I think most people will have interacted with a chatbot by now.

Alan, could you please reconsider the status of this word when you have time?

Words / SUASION common?
« on: March 29, 2023, 03:05:16 PM »
SUASION was found by only 21 of 301 players in yesterday's UNANIMOUS 7-by-many.

I'm not convinced there would be a unanimous vote to keep it as common.

Word Games / Shout out to kathyF
« on: February 11, 2023, 09:52:48 AM »
I can't message kathyF because she doesn't appear to be a member of the forum, but I hope she'll be able to read this.

Thank you, kathyF, for the many 7-by-many 'Your puzzles' you create with a very low common word count. I really enjoy the challenge, as do many others judging by the large numbers who play them.

Whatever / 403 Forbidden

At the chihuahua-puzzle.com version of the site I'm getting the following message today when I try to access the forum:

At chi.lexigsame.com I have no problem accessing the forum – obviously, since I'm here  :)

Anyone else having this problem?

Words / Ellipses
« on: June 30, 2022, 10:06:15 PM »
In yesterday's PHILOSOPHIES/PHILOSOPHISE/POLISHES 7-by-many both ellipse and ellipsis were classified as common, but ellipses was 'Sorry, not known'.

I realise that ellipses is the plural of ellipse as well as being the plural of ellipsis, but I was trying it as the latter meaning (. . . ) (and I missed ellipse altogether).

Would it be too confusing to add ellipses to the dictionary, Alan?

Words / Trilobite
« on: March 30, 2022, 03:03:08 PM »
In the LIBRETTO 7-by-many. (I refuse to call it the TRILOBITE 7-by-many.)

Common? And a seed word? Surely not either.

Word Games / Your Puzzles modification request. A big ask?
« on: February 14, 2022, 04:18:36 PM »
Alan, this is a request for a modification which may be either relatively simple or require a huge amount of work. I know nothing about coding, so I've no idea which one it is.

It may also depend on whether other players find merit in the suggestion. Here goes.

I'm an avid player of the 7-by-many games in Your Puzzles, but I don't play the Standard, Challenge and 10-letter Your Puzzles. Many puzzle creators tick the 'Hide solution till closed' box, and that can mean in some cases that a week goes by before the solution is available.

Would it be possible to have an option to be notified when the solution becomes available, with a link to the puzzle, for Your Puzzles that one has played? I know that there is a 'You played' filter for closed games, but it would be nice to be able to see individual puzzle solutions when they become available, rather than having to go through the solutions for a lot of puzzles at once. I feel that I am neglecting to learn new possible words by not checking the solutions often enough.

I will understand if the answer to my cheeky request is a big flat 'No', and I'm also prepared to be told that I'm just being lazy. :-[

I'm also not too sure if there are many forumites who play Your Puzzles, so I don't expect much support. Just thought I'd ask.

Words / WORKWEEK common?
« on: February 10, 2022, 04:16:24 PM »
I'd like to query the 'common' status of workweek (in yesterday's WICKERWORK 7-by-many).

I suspect that it's a usage likely to be confined to North America. The UK and Australia might be more inclined to say 'working week'.

Words / MINUTEMAN and MINUTEMEN in the MINUTIAE 7-by-many
« on: December 05, 2021, 05:59:59 PM »
Minuteman was a second seed word and minutemen was common in the MINUTIAE 7-by-many.

I realise that "I've never heard of it" is not a valid reason for objecting to a word's common status, but it seems that according to Wikipedia they were 'civilian colonists who independently formed militia companies self-trained in weaponry, tactics, and military strategies, comprising the American colonial partisan militia during the American Revolutionary War'.

This seems to me to make the words both fairly obscure and geographically limited. I request that they be demoted to rare.

Words / HASHTAG in STRAIGHT 7-by-Many, 7th November
« on: November 08, 2021, 04:08:54 PM »
When I request consideration for a new word, I usually only ask for its inclusion as rare. But for HASHTAG (STRAIGHT 7-by-Many, 7th November) I'm going to stick my neck out and ask for it to be made common right from the start.

Words / Word suggestion MANSPLAIN
« on: October 15, 2021, 03:36:48 PM »
In yesterday's PLAINSMAN 7-by-Many, MANSPLAIN was 'Sorry, not known'.

I won't womansplain what it means – it's obvious  :D My browser underlines womansplain in red, but not mansplain. I think mansplain has made it into several dictionaries, and I'd like to suggest its inclusion as a rare word.

Word Games / Thank you Ppilot
« on: September 09, 2021, 08:00:27 PM »
Since Ppilot does not appear to be registered for the forum (which means, I think, that I can't send him a message) I'd like to take this opportunity to thank him for the many 7-by-many games he creates and shares in Your Puzzles.

I enjoy the low-word-count games he creates, with no hit rate, and instant solutions available.

Words / Timeline in yesterday's 7-by-many
« on: August 01, 2021, 03:41:05 PM »
I realise that I'm going out on a limb by suggesting an upgrade from rare to common, but I'd like to put in that claim for timeline, featured in yesterday's ENLISTMENT/TIMELINESS/TIMELESSNESS game.

Words / Word suggestion: POKERWORK
« on: April 27, 2021, 05:11:20 PM »
I tried POKERWORK in the recent OPENWORK 7-by-many, but it was 'not known'.

If OPENWORK is common and can be a seed word, I suggest that POKERWORK might at least qualify as rare.
