Word Games / Uppercase for all words
« on: June 05, 2020, 06:57:33 PM »
Hi all,
This is a new look and I dislike it intensely. I would be very happy to have only the "big" word desplayed in all uppercase. Other thoughts and opinions?

Words / Raddled common?
« on: January 27, 2016, 07:31:02 PM »
Perhaps 5 days straight of close to 100% humidity has addled my brain and made me raddled? I have never seen raddled before.

Words / Nawab
« on: May 03, 2014, 01:42:40 PM »
This is the word I missed in yesterday's standard puzzle. Nawab is actually an Urdu word. I guess many words found their way into English usage during the British occupation of India, but I hardly think this is a common word today. Also if nawab is considered common, then bwana should be a common word too?

Words / maser common?
« on: August 29, 2008, 03:01:00 PM »
Another one I was surprised to see on the common list. Perhaps I'm missing out on great and stimulating conversation - I don't think Ive ever heard someone use maser in a sentence.

Whatever / wild weather

Hey there,

Yet another severe storm system blew its way over the islands over the past couple of days with strong winds and torrential rain - even a tornado in Tauranga! Has a lovely lilt that: Tornado in Tauronga (pronounced Toe-wrong-er, equal emphasis on all three syllables).

Our garden fence blew down. Don't you love insurance??

Civil defense in Nelson at the top of South Island cordoned off the road near a large 100 year old tree that was obviously not going to make it thorough the storm. At the last moment, some fool decided to move his car from a private car park within the cordon. A policeman can be seen running to warn the driver just before the tree started to fall. The video was supplied by Pablo Munoz Garrido. Talk about a McGuyver-type last split-second save:

Hope he bought a Lotto ticket on his way home while his luck was still running.  ;D ;D

Whatever / "expanding a category"

Hi friends,

Just had a look to see who's online and who is where in this rabbit warren, and Binkie is "expanding a category". I'm impressed Binks. This musr be either deeply philosophical or technologically innovative.  You expand away!

Whatever / it's just a jump to the left
« on: May 13, 2008, 08:27:13 PM »
I looked at my profile picture today, and considering the real world picture outside (frikking cold and not suited to sunhats), decided it was time for something more in keeping with winter. So I've changed, my avatar. Not a great piccy, but taken on a special day recently when I said goodbye to a great friend who's moving far up North to the Bay of Islands after her retirement. Still me though.

Who else is up for a change? Can be representative of course. Like Binks, Roberts, Threeb fr'instance, you can pick anything. To quote Richard O'Brien (Rocky Horror Picture Show), perhaps we could consider a half turn occasionally? In this age of inexpensive digital cameras it doesn't even cost anything.  :)

Whatever / A very long walk - please sponsor us
« on: March 23, 2008, 11:05:19 AM »
Hi there all you lovely Chi buddies,

This is my formal, official request for support (of the financial kind) for our 2008 Oxfam Trailwalk Challenge attempt. Some of you will know already that I've been training hard all year to enter this extreme cross-country walk event.

Basically our team of four intrepid walkers (photo taken at Bethells Beach on Good Friday below), are going to participate in the 2008 Oxfam Trailwalk charity drive by walking a one hundred kilometre long track together in 36 hours or less. The event is scheduled for the 5 and 6th April and takes place in and around Taupo which is about a 4 hour drive south of Auckland, New Zealand.

Our physical preparation, stamina, endurance, sacrifice (and a bit of enjoyment added to the mix) hopefully is the trigger that inspires you to make a contribution to the charity organisation Oxfam via our webpage. That and the fact that I'm begging you to help, and you're all delighted to be part of something so worthwhile and positive with me (and Sam, Margaret and Beck.)
All contributions no matter how modest or small or insignificant you may think them, will combine together for us to achieve our target of raising $2500 for Oxfam this year.

You can make your donations by credit card online from our webpage. Here is the link: http://www.oxfam.org.nz/events/teams.asp?a=show_team_pages&eventid=15&teamid=3089
If the link doesn't work for you, type the following three words into google.com: "bobbi munday oxfam". Once you've opened this page, you will see a large green button with the legend "Team Fundraising: make a donation" There you will be able to enter your credit card details and leave us a short message (if you can't be bothered to type a witty or encouraging comment, at least please add your name or your Chi pseudonym so we know where our support came from).

Note that amount you select to donate on our behalf is in NZ dollars. If you are not in New Zealand, you will need to use a currency converter to figure out how much money this will cost you in your own country. This currency converter is easy to use: www.oanda.com/convert/classic

If online payments freak you out, please send me an email and I'm happy to give you my bank account details and do the web transfer for you.

The Oxfam Trailwalker information page is at: http://www.oxfam.org.nz/oxfam_trailwalker/ if you'd like to read more about this event or about how Oxfam use donated money.

I'm looking forward to seeing your contributions pop up, together with suitable comments questioning our sanity, on our webpage. Oxfam are keen for this to happen too!

Happy Easter!

Lots and lots of love and hugs and kisses,
Bobbi,
aka Diva on the Chi puzzle page XXX

Words / calor
« on: January 08, 2008, 06:35:51 AM »
Hi Alan,

I concede it's a bit medical, but then again so is tumor. What about calor - one of the four signs of inflammation? Calor is the first: heat. Comes from Latin, calor = heat. Cheers, B XXX
