There's also the eternal question of how much members with cartoon avatars resemble said avatars in real life ... :)

Not even slightly, although that probably goes without saying.

I failed to get a rosette in two games yesterday and today by missing stone (when I'd played stoned) and emit (when I'd played item, time and mite). Aargh!! Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees.

I missed sack in the recent HAVERSACK game.

First time I've heard catarrh so I'm with Les on making it rare.

I've heard of philippic from the Simon and Garfunkel song (A Simple Desultory Philippic) but I wouldn't remember it to play it and I had to look up it's meaning.

Funny you should post this right now. I've just been informed by a flat-earther that Australia doesn't exist. The visit I thought I made there a couple of years ago was actually a government simulation and the people I visited weren't real. Always good to be corrected when you're suffering from misinformation.

It makes me think of a Milton Jones joke:
Some people don't understand evolution. I met an Australian who thought he came from Darwin.

Although Wikipedia has it as two words it can also be spelt as one (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bit_rate). Worth adding as a rare word?

I reckon breweries make the best commercials and I am considering running a contest to test opinions on which is the most amusing.

This isn't a beer ad but it's quite amusing (to me, anyway):

I thought Zambuck might be better known in NZ than Oz because of their attendance at Rugby games.

I wouldn't know as I'm probably the only NZer not interested in rugby.

We have a tube station at The Oval in London (near the cricket ground!)  They do a "Thought of the Day" on a white board.  Some are just funny little one liners & some are amazing, moving & thought provoking.  Very popular with Londoners.

There's a cafe near work that puts one-liners on its blackboard outside the entrance. My favourite is:
If you leave your children here we will feed them lots of sugar and give them high hopes for Christmas
