It is very hot here today, Pen but also very blustery - perfect washing day if I could get to my washing line, which I can't.  Thunderstorms forecast here for tomorrow afternoon/evening - love them, except when the TV goes off in the middle of a Midsomer, or worse, a Foyle!

I can manage a fair amount of wine without staggering, fortunately!  Hardy northern stock!

Just been for a little walk but it's really too hot for much exertion and the combination of sun, wind and lupins in a neighbour's garden has made me hayfevery.  Having a reviving strong cup of coffee before thinking about what to have for tea.  Probably some sort of salad with lots of our favourite condiment!  >:D

Hope you not too scared of the thunder - just turn up the TV and ignore it.  I'll be stood at the window!  >:D

I can't understand why anybody would want one in that development as Longpool is a noisy and dirty road.

Phew!  I was thinking along the same lines, Christine, but didn't want to say in case it was your idea of a dream location!!   >:D

We're a bit 'bah humbug' too and we live in a Victorian terrace house - perfect neighbours for you.  I'm not keen on 'modern' houses but can see the appeal of a modern bungalow as the years roll by and the joints become stiffer but will resist as long as we're able to stagger up the stairs.

Winslow is a small town about a 15 minute drive from me.

Near enough not to let the pink get warm!

We have a window lintel in now!!  How exciting!

I think This Town was their closing number and went down a storm.

Have a lovely, lazy day in the sunshine, Pen.

Christine, are you considering the new retirement flats going up near the station?  Maybe a mews flat in the town centre?

Hi Pen and Christine

Your house sounds lovely, Christine.  I love quirky.  Our house has two flights of stairs but one leads up to son's former bedroom so I don't have to go up those too often now!  I have often wondered about The Bristly Hog (which seems to be a busy little place) and will give it a go.  As to scrambled eggs, I often make them and often throw them in the bin.  They have got to be perfect for me to enjoy them - not too runny and not too rubbery!  It's an art!

Son and girlfriend went to a wedding in Winslow I believe, Pen.  Stayed overnight and on down to London to see Sparks at the Royal Albert Hall.  They like a bit of retro and said they were fantastic.

Another hot day and work is progressing (too slowly for my liking!!) with the extension.  Hordes of 'visitors' have now descended so I think the police and RSPCA will have their work cut out.  I can't bear to see the horses tethered up in the hot weather without shade and sufficient water.   :(

Thanks, Pen.  Seeing as how I don't even do the Lottery there's not much chance, however hubby dabbles in it so who knows!

We were playing an album in the car by the people who sang your rebus song just the other day.  Great voices and great songs - though not the rebus song so much for me.

Son and girlfriend were at a wedding in Bucks last weekend - should have got them to drop by with a bottle of pink for you from me!  Very hot here today so a glass of something cool and vaguely alcoholic will be absolutely necessary this evening!  >:D

We may have seen each other there without knowing, Christine.  My last purchase there was two suitcases in the sale - still going strong.  I wish there was a Seasalt in Kendal - ideal sort of place for one I would have thought.  Still, at least there is a White Stuff (overpriced I always think but nice clothes) and our go to place for coffee and bacon/sausage baps - Booths.  Occasionally go into Farrers but it's always so busy and the stairs haven't been great for me recently with my recovering hip.  I love Kendal and would very much like to live there if the house prices would plummet or if I won the Lottery!!  Watch this space!  >:D

Is it the Appleby Horse Fair that you're referring to?

Afraid so!  Luckily, we don't live in the thick of things and I only work very part time now so can avoid the chaos as long as I don't wander too far - which I won't!
Heavy police presence this year and most of the pubs have shut.  Opinion may be divided but I think the majority of locals would be glad to see the back of the Fair for good.

the annual invasion of the (now closed) small department store I worked

I bet I know which store that was - used to be one of my favourites!!  Sad to see it standing empty now.

Linda hasn't made any comment about Inspector Lewis being in the most recent episode

How remiss of me, Pen!  He was awful.  The programmes are getting more and more ridiculous.  Bring back Tom, I say.  >:D

Hunkering down now ready for the onslaught of the 'visitors' to our little town!  :(

If I set off now will I be in time to join you?

In a word - no!  If you hurry you might be able to join me later at book club and we can share a bottle of pink!  >:D

Quite right, Pen!  Give me Brief Encounter or The Remains of the Day and I'm as happy as I can be watching a film.  Much prefer to be reading a book.  Just finished Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively and will be recommending to book club - will probably get shot down in flames, but there you go! Each to his/her own.

Meagre lunch today as going to pub tonight for meal with work colleagues - am pretty ravenous already and can't decide on the Cumberland sausage or lasagne.  Maybe the steak and ale pie or maybe the moussaka!  Decisions, decisions!  Yum  :-H >:D

Welcome back, Jane!  I'm still here and looking forward to chatting with you again.  I should think I'm your nearest Chi neighbour?!  >:D

Hold the front page Linda! Shock horror :o  I have to have my beans warmed up

I know, I'm strange!  Not a great lover of baked beans anyway but a spoonful of cold (and I mean refrigerated) beans is quite good with corned beef type things.  You'll probably just take my word for that!

Washing was all dry by late afternoon as the sun came out and it was quite hot for an hour or two.  I am hobbling much better now and think limp is disappearing slowly but still get a bit of pain in leg.  Was meant to go to see surgeon in February but they cancelled due to 'rearrangement of wards' or some such thing and I have heard nothing from them yet.  C'est la vie!  >:D

Sounds scrummy, Pen.  I had poached eggs on toast for lunch - bit boring, unlike your sarnie!  Either bangers or spag bol would do me for tea but unfortunately I'm having neither.  Now that I've thought about corned beef, I remember I have some corned beef bake things in the freezer which will be nice with some spuds and veg - or even baked beans, just as long as they're cold!!

Weather improved a little so washing is out but keeping an eye on it as it looks as though it could rain any minute.   :(

May i suggest getting all electric appliances?

Wouldn't have it any other way, RTT!  I have my eye on a composite quartz sink too but dithering over colour scheme for units, still we are a loooonnng way off worrying about that yet.  Dirt, dust and much upheaval comes first!  >:D

Hope you've managed to locate the mince Linda

Found it eventually!  Final result was very tasty but I'm a bit jealous of your chicken and leek pie and might have to invest in one this week.  Dull and grey here today but no wind and no chance of getting washing out to dry.   >:(  >:D

He lives locally and has already done our roof so we know he is a good worker and trustworthy.  Hubby will do a fair bit of the groundwork himself which will save a bit of dosh.  Will be living in chaos for quite a while I think and then the next expensive part will come when we have to kit out the whole kitchen with new units, appliances etc.  Still, it will look nice when it's all finished, hopefully!

Making cottage pie for tea tonight, if I can find where I put the mince!!  >:D
