Makes you wonder what people plan to do with the time they saved by saying 'I'll diarize it' rather than 'I'll put it in my diary'.  >:D

Yet even the awful 'diarize' (but not 'diarise') was accepted.

I'd say that empiric was more common than empiricist.

I think this might warrant inclusion in Chiís lexicon.

Whatever / Re: Living in Australia?
« on: June 09, 2020, 01:17:21 AM »
Funny you should post this right now. I've just been informed by a flat-earther that Australia doesn't exist. The visit I thought I made there a couple of years ago was actually a government simulation and the people I visited weren't real. Always good to be corrected when you're suffering from misinformation.

I'm not suggesting that heterodox should be re-classified, of course; it's a perfectly common word, although it is quite unusual for a seed-word to also be the least-played word in a game.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

It mentions Aussies too. I have to say that parakeet-smuggler doesn't have quite the same ring as budgie-smuggler.

The pauraque is a type of nightjar found in the Americas. While it's a word probably known only to people with an interest in birds I don't think it's too obscure for Chi. I'd like to suggest it for inclusion (rejected by the parquet puzzle).

Whatever / Re: Anti-covid face masks

Don't be too impressed by our PM. The government's tardiness in taking the appropriate steps to deal with the virus almost certainly resulted in a few thousand extra deaths and gave us the unwanted distinction of having the highest death rate in Europe and the second highest in the world. Not a record to be proud of, although I do agree that we're better off with Johnson than you are with that thing in the White House.

Most famous of all. of course was the song 'Milord' by the immortal 'Little Sparrow' - Edith Piaf

Synchronicity! I took a break from arranging some music for my band to come on here and saw your post. The music I'm working on? An Edith Piaf medley including 'Milord'!

Compared to the federal government's response in the USA, the UK seems absolutely brilliant in its response.

Canít argue with that, TRex. Having said that, it looks as if the UK might end up with the highest death rate of any country in Europe. I guess even inept governments occasionally top the charts in something.  :(

From what I can make out the general opinion seems to be that face masks are most effective at protecting others from the people wearing them. Some people are wearing them, some aren't. There's a concern that if they're made compulsory there will be a shortage for the people who most need them, e.g. care workers. I suspect that once we start to move out of lockdown they may be required in the sort of places you mention, Mike. Although with our government's inept handling of the crisis, who knows?
