I'd like to suggest paywall for inclusion: "(on a website) an arrangement whereby access is restricted to users who have paid to subscribe to the site."
I noticed that the word has been used in five threads but not as a suggestion for inclusion.

For what it’s worth I have never heard of the term.

I've never been aware of the word paywall although presumably I have been through one. It would seem to me, reading the explanations, to be worthy of inclusion as a word, but it seems to me to be mostly an IT specialist word, rather than being common in the general population.

If you've ever been to a news site where they say "If you want to continue reading this article..." then you've encountered a paywall...

I’m about as far from being an IT specialist as you can get … and it’s familiar to me. Just the other day, I was glad to read that Merriam-Webster (new owners of Quordle) have no plans for a paywall. Phew!

Have you tried Octordle, Maudland? You have 13 goes to get 8 words. Sounds a nightmare but it's no more difficult than Quordle (and much more fun than Wordle).

There's no doubt paywall should be added to our word list. It's in several dictionaries and is usually written as one word.
The earliest use of the word known to the OED was in 2004. They also have a 2006 citation from the Guardian which has the word in quotes, suggesting it was likely to be a novel term to a lot of readers:
The New York Times site is vast (though it has shut off some of its content behind a ‘paywall’).
The word is presumably modeled after firewall.
Should the word be classed as common? Paywalls are quite common online these days, but the websites erecting them don't generally use the word paywall. The word is more likely to be used in articles about online publications. I wouldn't say the word is precisely a specialist IT term, more a media/business term. But in any case, I'm not sure the word is widely enough used to warrant common status at this stage. I'll install it as a rare word.
