Title: diploid is common?
Post by: mkenuk on March 31, 2021, 05:32:28 PM
re the piloted 7-by-many game.

Missed a rosette by one word - diploid, a term from genetics.

Sorry, that's one 'common' word that is most certainly not familiar to this quite well-read native speaker of English.

Yet deltoid, which is probably known to more people, was rare.

Given how many people appeared to know some or all of epileptoid, lepidolite, lepidote and petioled I've come to the conclusion that my vocabulary must be severely lacking. ;D ;D ;D

Although I know the word (I took a course in genetics way back when), I would not think it is common.
