Title: fastball

To miss a rosette by one word is disappointing, but when that word is a term from baseball, it just becomes annoying.

Please can fastball join bunt and bullpen and other such terms from this American pastime on the uncommon list?

For the record fastball got 93 hits from 324 (just under 30%) and was the least played common word.

Never mind; as always in such cases, I shall award myself an honorary rosette and, for consolation, an extra beer while watching TV this evening.

And why not?. Probably the second most popular team sport in the world; almost a billion followers on the Indian sub-continent alone!

I must admit I am a little surprised that no-one has ever challenged the common status of googly, however.
I'm not querying it, of course. To me, it's a perfectly common word!

Shane Warne? Destroyer of more English hopes than almost any other Aussie in my lifetime.... but he remains one of the greatest cricketers of all time. - And that is from a true Englishman!

We don't mention India at the moment after England's poor showing in the recent tests >:D

I was lucky enough to see Shane Warne play at Trent Bridge in the 2005 Ashes. When he wasn't bowling he was fielding on the boundary & exchanging occasional chat & banter with random spectators :)

In seriousness since neither cricket nor baseball are played universally, even in the English-speaking world, maybe the "common" status of such terms could be reviewed...

I don't know the cricket meaning of "googly" but I have seen the word often in posts on crafting in the phrase "googly eyes."
