Title: Seeing stars
Post by: lilys field on March 07, 2021, 04:18:56 AM
So...
maybe the answer to this is obvious to everyone else but
I’ve noticed that underneath forum members name are stars.  Not to name names but
Some People have a lot more than others.  I have two.  Not that I care
In the least little way. Just curious. But Mine is gold and others are green.. not
That it makes any difference what color your stars are.  No judgment. I could care less.
I’m an adult.

I even scanned the many instructional and forum help areas to find out what the meaning of two (GOLD) stars is, which Alan probably went to a good deal of trouble to provide.  Bravely albeit, tentatively, I faced Technology, totally unarmed.  I emerged from my quest unenlightened.

No biggie.  Just sayin

I haven't done an extensive search (about 20 seconds!) but Jack & I have 3 green stars apiece whereas Moyra has 3 gold stars ;)
Conclusion:  Moyra obviously behaves better in class than us >:D

Hi Paula,

Nothing so sinister.  It relates to the number of posts you have made.

These are the forum levels, and the numbers of posts required to reach them:

Neophyte     *     0
Logologist    **    50
Lexicomane    ***    100
Word-meister    ****    150
Linguissimo    *****    200
Paronomaniac    ******    300
Cryptoverbalist    *    500
Glossologian    **    1000
Eulexic    ***    2000
WordStar    ****    5000

Many of the names are made up, but some of them are genuine obscure words. The scale goes up as high as it does because we do actually have people with that many posts to their names, and some of them got stroppy when they reached a numerical milestone and didn't get a new title. The rate of posting in recent years has been nowhere near as high as it was at its peak. I think someone must have seen what was going on in this forum in 2007 and decided to invent social media. The rest is history.

Hi again Pen,

It wouldn’t be hard, would it?  >:D

I knew your conclusion about my behaviour was wrong....I'm the one relegated to the naughty corner even at old ladies patchwork/quilting classes.
Never, ever been know as a goodie-goodie.
Sometimes my (classroom) misdemeanours were from the sidelines...laughing, choking,( hysterical even) at what was going on around me....often unseen by those in authority....so I was the "naughty one" and suitably dealt with.
Nothing much changes!

Clearly, the respondents are a rascally bunch—not necessarily excluding Jack who replied with ostensible sobriety and a digital straight face.

My thanks

As soon as I saw this I  thought of a wonderful David Mitchell video I'd seen a few years ago: https://youtu.be/om7O0MFkmpw (https://youtu.be/om7O0MFkmpw) - no judgement...  ;)

I'll have to wait for quite a few more posts before I get another... lol  ;D
