Title: Nuts
Post by: Tom44 on December 07, 2019, 02:48:30 PM
I played nuts again, even though it does not work.  I am stubborn.  I will continue to play it until Alan finally changes his mind an allows it. Anyone want to join me in this act of rebellion?

Hi Tom,

I am too timid to take part in acts of rebellion.

I just try it every time because I can't remember whether it has been allowed or not

That made me laugh! I'm too worried about buggering up my percentages! In spirit I'm with you!

Go on then, Tom, I'm a bit of a rebel at heart and I totally agree that it's nuts that nuts should not be allowed!  I am rather fond of Brazil nuts actually, but that's another matter entirely!  >:D

Power to the People!!

Plain brazil nuts Linda? or chocolate covered ones!
I'm partial to cashews (salted please) myself!
I'm not much of an anarchist I'm afraid but like Jacki I'll be with you in spirit!

Please add my name to the petition;

While we're at it could we also campaign for the commonisation of dregs, eaves and oats and the rarifying of their far less commonly used singular forms?

I will continue to play it until Alan finally changes his mind and allows it. Anyone want to join me in this act of rebellion?

Not quite sure what benefit there is in playing the word. All that happens is that Chi says 'Sorry, not known' and reduces your hit-rate.
Your act of rebellion goes quite unrecorded, I think.

And whilst we're revisiting classifications, I'd like to suggest that the status of orate and orated also be revised (from rare to common).

Completely agree about orate and orated. It's nuts that they're not common!

And while we are about it can we add PILES to the list

Plain every time.  It's the same with digestive biscuits - got to be plain.  I'm just a regular old plain Jane I suppose!!  >:D

I don't think you're at all plain!  Very good taste - especially in your choice of telly programmes
I enjoy a plain digestive with a scrape of butter & some cheese.  Somehow nicer than crackers  Perhaps it's me that's crackers or nuts >:D - harking back to the original theme of the thread!

I'm with you re digestives, butter and cheese - yum!  I have also been known to make little cheesecake type things with them - Dairylea and raspberry jam on top - double yum!  I find crackers a bit meh!!  >:D

You are definitely a lady with exceedingly good taste :)
Must try your cheesecake idea.  Do you bash them with a rolling pin & add a little bit of butter?  I've got a few little glass ramekins as I occasionally have GU deserts as a treat & always keep the jar!  Bet it would work with lemon curd as well :-H

Dairylea is a thick spreadable cheese or cheese triangles.  I expect it's probably unique to the UK though I'm sure you must have an equivalent!
GU puds are very yummy :-H

Pen, you must have mistaken me for someone who enjoys cooking/baking!!  I simply meant getting a dollop of Dairylea from the tub, spreading it on plain digestives and smearing a layer of raspberry jam on top.  Kind of a cheesecake in my mind!!

PS I do cook/bake but it isn't one of my fun occupations. You won't be seeing me on Master Chef/Bake Off any time soon!  >:D

sorry Linda   Have to be honest I don't cook or bake much - especially since my daughter moved out.  I love food but have got a bit lazy.  Always go for the easy option!  My diet does include rather a lot of bangers :-[
(with mash, chips, egg...lots of variation!)
Anyway plain digestives are very versatile & I'm getting hungry & it's still nearly 2 hours til lunch :-H

Cumberland/Lincolnshire are my favourites.  Sausage and mash or sausage, egg and chips - yum!  Pigs in blankets - double yum!!  >:D

Oh Linda you're killing me!!  Cumberland are my favourites.  I had sausage, egg & chips on Friday yummy!  I have a bad habit of overcooking my fried eggs because I like the yolk runny but the white cooked.  When I dip my chip in & find it's hard it's very disappointing :'(

It's the only way to eat a fried egg, Pen!  I am also very fussy when it comes to scrambled eggs.  I do them in the microwave in small increments of time so that they are not too runny and not too rubbery - it's a very delicate operation!  >:D

I've never tried cooking scrambled eggs in the microwave Linda!  I always use a small saucepan & then moan like hell because it's a nightmare to wash it up

Microwaved scrambled eggs are the best, be careful not to overdo them.
As for sausages etc...extremely unhealthy...and utterly delicious.
If you want your fried eggs with the white cooked and a runny yolk try a one egg pan (from ALDI ) , works every time.

Thanks!  Next time I'm in Aldi I will investigate.  I get a bit fed up with overcooked yolks :-R

Small non-stick frypan is I use.  So quick to cook & quick to clean up.

I tried a new idea that worked rather well.  Start with a standard recipe for blueberry or raspberry muffins.  Use pomegranate seeds instead of the berries.  Add some orange zest to the batter.  When the recipe calls for vanilla extract, use half vanilla and half Grand Marnier.  This was really good.  Pomegranates are in season, raspberries are not.

I had another idea.  Shame on me.  Maybe make a sweet potato pie, but first make some pralines.  Crumble the pralines onto the pie, then drizzle with real maple syrup, then bake it.  It sounds sinful.

I did send out another (very small) batch of toys this year.  Oh well, something is better than nothing.  Photos available if you want.

Your muffins sound delicious :-H  I'm one of the few people who can't get on with sweet potato.  I've tried it a few times & just don't like them - too sweet!

I would love to see pictures of the toys :)

If that's one of the wooden toys you reported elsewhere as being written off due to production error, it doesn't look particularly beset with errors to me ...
