Well everyone should be cashed up after backing Santa Anna Lane last week.
This Saturday at Sandown, I like HOLY SNOW (currently 10 to 1 ) in Race 6 Horse 4.
-
Well I'll reply if no one else will. Santa Ana was a good pick. I wasn't on it unfortunately but I'll have a few bob on your Holy Snow tip.

G'day Jacki,
In 2016, I had a little bit of a win on the Cup which I " boasted " about on the forum. ( if you go to the forum tab & type almandini into the search field, you will be able to review that thread ).
In that thread, Barbaram relayed how she had invested an exorbitant amount of money on that years cup for absolutely no return so i offered to provide her with a tip for the following years cup.
My tip for the 2017 Cup was for Almandini to go back to back but unfortuneately he never came close.
This year, i tipped Marmello which could only manage second.
Then, the following week, in an attempt to amuse Ozziejack, i tipped a horse with an usual name " Veery Eleegant" but it also never threatened.
So when S.A.L. came up the next week at such attractive odds, i felt compelled to tip it as i was very confident of its wining chances & saw an opportunity to redeem my reputation as a competent tipster.
It is absolutely no surprise to me that you or probably anybody else bothered to back Santa however when she did win ( albeit very narrowly ) it occurred to me that i should create a new thread dedicated to my horse racing tips just to prove that selecting S.A.L was not just a fluke.
I have no idea how many " punters " are on the forum but i would like to think that even those that are not regular punters might choose to follow my tips, just for a bit of fun & have a dollar each way on my selections, i will try to ensure that my weekly " special " is always at each way odds.
Even if Holy Snow comes out tomorrow & runs stone motherless last, i will continue with my weekly special until the end of December, if i can not come with three winners during that period then i will delete the thread.

Hi Looney.....um, Les 😄
I'm pleased to see a post from you on the lighter side of life. No doubt some keen punters would dispute that horses/tipping is a "lighter" topic...but it certainly is to me, especially when we compare it to Barry's health...or anyone else's health, for that matter.
Yesterday, I thought I might try following your tip this week, but there is a huge problem. I have NEVER placed a bet and don't know how 😦. Any bets on past Melbourne Cup races were placed by a betting friend....usually to no avail...certainly have not broken even!
I have decided in the last few minutes that placing a bet is not a "skill" I actually need to acquire, so I will be following your thread with interest and keeping my money in my purse. This is not a judgement on anyone placing a bet, and I may change my mind at a later date BUT for now I'll remain an entertained observer. And I know who to ask if I change my mind 😉
I hope your big brother gets better soon,

My father's father liked a flutter. One day in 1947, he asked my mother (brought up strict chapel, cards are the "work of the devil", only the Bible on Sunday) to pick a horse, and she picked the winner for him. At the next major race, the 1947 Derby, he asked her to pick again, and said this time he would place a bet for her. She picked Pearl Diver, which came in at 40 to 1. Her luck frightened her so much, she refused to bet ever again.
I wonder if you would have persuaded her to try again, Les?

auntiemo,
I love you to bits, you are just like my big sister & mother, you always seem to understand where I am coming from.
Of course, creating the tipping thread is just a distraction for me to take my mind of more serious matters, I do not seriously expect anybody to actually invest their hard earned money on my " Looney Tips " but thought that it might be entertaining for them to follow my progress.
I am not a particularly religious person but i am definitetly convinced that the prayers & positive karma from everybody reading these posts is contributing to my brothers recovery.

I would like to think so but just a little bit difficult to answer as i was not born until 1959.
I really enjoyed that story about your great grandparents & i wonder how greatgrandma ever came up with that winner, was the name " Pearl Diver " something which was significant in her life?
Given your genes, it is no surprise that you are prepared to possibly follow my tips, do you mind me asking if you are a regular punter or are you just looking for that prompt that i would have given Grandma, all of those years ago?
-
Ooh no, sorry - I'm not a betting person. I've never even bought a national lottery ticket, though I do buy tickets at fundraising events.
My mother was sometimes a little fey, but she said the names of these two horses - "Pearl Diver" and the other - just jumped off the page as names she liked. She had had to give up teaching when she had my brother in 1944, but my memory is she said her winnings were nearly as much as a week's salary when she had been working.
-
Well I did my dough as I put $10 on the nose, but it did well to come from last to second.
-
Sorry Jacki but the odds on favourite was just too good.
As I listened to the race, I thought of you as a novice punter also listening to the race.
I can just imagine your reaction as Holy Snow dropped back to the tail of the field ( that bloody lunatic Les has no idea, this horse is absolutely hopeless, its going to run last all of the way !!!! )
I try to provide a tip that is going to be a bit of value ( any idiot can tip a favourite ) so anything over about 6 to 1 is considered to be good each way odds, I also like to get in early & make my selections on either the Thursday or Friday before a Saturday meeting as this will usually ensure that i get a better price.
I had a $100 each way on Holy Snow on Thursday when it was paying $10 the win & $2.50 a place so even though it only ran second, i still won $50.
So, if you are brave or silly enough to continue to follow my selections ( we need to redeem your $10 ) my number one punting lesson is ; anything at 6 to 1 or over always go eachway that means that if it finishes in the top three you will at least get your money back.
I would like to ask you seriously & would appreciate an honest answer, do you think that your $10 was well spent. Even though it only took a couple of minutes to lose your money did you get just a little bit excited with anticipation as the race approached, did you feel some exhiliration during the call as Holy Snow made his run or at the very least, was it just something different, a little bit of fun but probably something that you would never do again?
-
I have worked with some punters over the years but have never been inclined to do it myself.
The most interesting was a syndicate of 4, 2 of whom knew a bit about horses. They bet on number or barrier 3 (I forget which). If they didn't win, they doubled the bet. They said they normally won once in about 4 or 5 races. So, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and provided it paid more than 2 to 1, they won. They played for 3 months and then stopped; one renovated his kitchen but I forget what the other 3 did with the winnings.
The kitchen renovator then became the office bookie, paying 10% more than the TAB (the legal bookie). He gave that up when someone welched on a $4,000 debt.
-
Ok everyone, it's time to empty the moths out of those wallets & purses to have a little flutter on the return of " Looney Les's Lucky Listings "
Mooney Valley Saturday ... Race 6 Horse 1 ... Wagner at huge odds of 20 -1 (recommend each way )
Good Luck
-
Thanks for the tip.
It sort of reminds me of the quip:
"If I could get back all the money I have spent on whisky.
Then I would spend it on whisky."
Michael
-
That's a clever quip Michael, makes perfect sense to me
-
Ok I've had a bet on Wagner - the tote is $77-1 - but fixed odds is now down to $19-1 on the ACT TAB.
Fingers crossed for a win!
-
Hi Jacki, fortune favours the brave.
Did you go with the big odds on the tote ( you now how quickly they can shrink ... & that reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld but that's another story ) or did you take the fixed odds & back it each way ( remember Holy Snow ) anyway whatever you have done i hope you have some fun with it.
I've got $150 the win fixed at 26 to 1.
Good Luck
-
If Wagner lets us down , i also like Miss Redoble in the last in Sydney at about 10 to 1.
So that's Randwick Race 9 Horse 7 & if you don't mind taking the short odds, Brooklyn Hustle should be winning race 4 at the Valley
-
I'm with you - Glen Boss - what can go wrong? I bet on Steel Diamond at good odds recently and I think I'll go the quinella
-
I'm impressed... Steel Damond is certainly a good bet & good on you for having the gumption to take the early odds. I just went for Miss Redoble at the price but conceding to your sage advice, i will also have a quinella.
-
Well what I mean is I picked her a couple of weeks ago when she came first at around the same odds as Wagner. I hadn't bet on her tomorrow yet exclusively but I have done the quinella.
-
Well that's a bit of an anti climax with Wagner being scratched.
So my default is Battle Torque also at the Valley ; R8 H4 ( AROUND 10 - 1 )
-
I knew it was a bad omen when Wagner was scratched ; anyway here are the results.
Brooklyn Hustle won comfortably.
Miss Redoble ran third ( in a tight photo with Steel Prince )
& Battle Torque well & truly lost the battle running a distant LAST !!!
-
Yep I cleaned up with a $7 payday with Ms Redoble.
Actually I had a funny day - I accidentally did a quinella for $51 instead of $1.50! Unfortunately you can't change a bet on the app and I only got half the required horses but boy if it had of come in I would have been laughing - it paid $120-1!!
-
Gidday Jacki,
Glad to hear that you had a little win.
I also do the majority of my betting on line these days, it is so easy to make a mistake, especially if you are in a hurry or maybe have Had a few to many drinks. ( of course the latter has never happened to me - it's always the computers fault )
-
Ok, so there are 4 horses that i like the look of at Flemington tomorrow.
South Pacific @ $2.80 ---- Race 1 Horse 4
Gamekeeper @ $17.00 --- Race 6 Horse 10
Dogmatic @ $ 10.00------ Race 7 Horse 2
Octane @ $3.00 ----------- Race 8 Horse 6
So my strategy will be to have an all up 4 leg place multi ( combined odds of around $24.00 ) & something eachway on the other 2 at the longer prices.
Good Luck
-
The Results - bit of a mixed bag again ;
South Pacific was terrible, started odds on but finished about tenth & that was the end of my "all up " gone in the first leg.
But if you backed Gamekeeper at the early odds, you should be way in front, his run was terrific, finishing third in a very good first up run which was well short of his preferred distance ( follow this bloke as he gets out to longer distances, i reckon that he is a potential superstar )
Dogmatic, disappointed finishing fifth.
Octane won easily & i suspect that they will now keep him at Flemington to progress through the grades, continue to back him, another potential superstar.
-
Had a small win last week so sticking with the same strategy.
Two favourites that should be winning & two at each way odds.
So the all up place bet will be; MOSCOW RED, MAN OF PEACE, ROCK BEAT & JUNIPAL . ( odds 25 -1 )
MOSCOW RED & JUNIPAL each way.
Caulfield Race 1 Horse 2 MOSCOW RED ( 7 -1 )
Randwick Race 8 Horse 8 MAN OF PEACE ( 3.9 - 1 )
Eagle Farm Race 9 Horse 1 ROCK BEAT ( 3.8 - 1 )
Caulfield Race 9 Horse 2 JUNIPAL ( 15 - 1 )
-
I followed you however Man of Peace was the only winner. Today though I picked three trifectas which I have never done before! Keep the tips coming - I am having a ball!
-
The results ;
Moscow Red got pipped in the photo to run fourth.
Man of Peace was an easy watch & won comfortably.
Rock Beat was terrible & could not even run a place.
Junipal ran very well finishing third.
Good on you Jacki... wow, 3 trifectas in one day ... maybe you should be giving the tips!!!
My saviour was Junipal which i backed eachway on Thursday when it was paying $26 the win & $9 the place.
I had a $50 bonus bet outstanding from sportsbet from last weekend so i chucked it on a ridiculous 6 leg all up win multi which was going to return in excess of 50k, the only leg i missed was plien ceil which was an odds on fav that went down at Caulfield.
I also backed Man of Peace & Rock Beat individually for the win so even though Rock Beat lost, i did finish up well in front on the day.
Jacki, do you mind if i ask which mob you bet with on line?
-
TAB in the ACT
-
I bet on names, the colour orange, riding history and I love a four in the fourth or the like. If I had of bet bigger I could have made a lot today but my trifectas were $3 Flexi so 50% dividends. But I had heaps of fun!!
-
TAB in the ACT
That's a shame, i was going to organize some free bonus bets for you through sportsbet but apparently it does not apply in the ACT for some reason. Anyway so glad to hear that you are enjoying your punting, it makes no difference if you are a big or small punter, the main thing is that you are having a bit of fun with it but of course it is all the more fun when you are also having a little win.
-
Thanks Les! Are you a bigwig in the betting world?
-
Hardly a big wig, just a very keen punter although i do have a V.I.P. membership with Sportsbet which entitles me to some exclusive offers & "gifts" which are mainly in the form of bonus bets, deposit matches & that sort of thing.
I was thinking that just to make this thread a little more interesting, starting this Saturday, i will allocate myself $100 to bet with & then keep a track of how much i win or lose over the next few months.
Of course anyone following my bets does not have to outlay so much but might like to have a bit of fun by following my tips with a much smaller outlay.
What do you think?
-
I have followed your tips the last few weeks and have probably lost but not much. I'll keep an eye on your tips for sure but can't promise more than that.
-
Jacki
My tips are posted purely for the amusement of the forum so there is certainly no expectation or obligation for anyone to be actually investing their hard earned on anything that i tip.
While i am silly enough to back these tips myself, i am only posting them for the entertainment of the forum, leaving myself wide open to ridicule when they continually lose however do keep in mind that just occasionally, very occasionally, i will throw up a winner that romps in at big odds.
Happy Punting
-
Oh absolutely. And I have looked forward to your tips. I'm just not sure what you meant by putting up $100?
-
So lets go early & have a mid week bet at Sandown tomorrow.
From my starting bank of $100 i will invest $15 dollars which will still leave me $85 to play with on Saturday.
So tomorrow i'm having $5 a win & $10 a place on RED LIGHT ROXANNE @ $9 the win & $3 the place.
That's Sandown Race 6 Horse 9
-
Well even though the late money came & she started favorite, i'm afraid she couldn't even run a place so i've lost my $15 & the bank balance stands at $85.
-
At this rate, my balance will be zero by Saturday but i'm going again in the next at Sandown.
Thats R 7 H6 ... Frankley Harvey paying 7.5 the win & 2.2 the place
-
I was in such a hurry to put up that last post that i failed to clarify my outlay which was 5 the win win & $10 the place.
Frank got beaten by a nose in the last stride but at least i picked up $22 for the place bet so current balance is back to $92.00
Going to have $6 a win on Sir Kalahad in the last, paying $6.50 the win.
That's R8 H2
-
Sir Kalahad ran third so no return there.
The end result of today's effort is that i have $88 left in the bank which is technically in the red for $100 which was my original outlay, hoping to get into the black on Saturday.
-
Saturdays bets all at Moonee Valley ;
R5 H3 GLOBAL GIFT $40 win paying $4
R8 H9 WITHERSPOON $5 win & $15 place paying $10win & $2.80 place
R9 H8 MIRIMAR $10 win & $18 place paying $15 win & $4.60 the place.
So pending tomorrows results, the bank balance stands at minus $100.00
-
I picked the winner with Jittery Jack in Race 5 (my only win today so far) and the rest were abandoned. So I'm square.
-
Well done Jacki, you must have been very excited given the way that it led & looked the winner so far from home then just kept on spacing them to win by a huge margin.
My selection, Global gift was very disappointing.
It was also very disappointing to have the rest of the meeting abandoned as i was very keen on Mirimar in the last especially after they backed it in to about $7.00.
I still had a good day as due to the cancellation of M.V. i went to Morphettville & backed the winners of the last two races there.
I doubt that Ozzyjack even follows this thread ( i think that at this stage Jacki, you might be my only fan ) but if he his, i do wonder if he remembers that a few years ago i tipped him a horse called VEERY ELLEGANT which i referenced to his beautiful wife.
On that day the horse finished at the tail of the field however since then she has progressed to win some very high class races & won again today at Randwick. ( noooo, i didn't back it )
Anyway, the point of all of this preamble is that " jack " seemed to be the prominent name in quite a few winners today so i finally got on board & piled into Jacobite Prince in the last at Morphettville & got a nice return.
But as far as Looney Les's Lucky Listings go, i have refunds of $48 which leaves me $52.00 in the red.
-
I didn't even see the race but was still happy with the result. Wish I had of backed it yesterday but got burnt last week when I bet the day before with so many scratchings and no third dividends paid on the dwindling competitors. Still managed three trifectas though!
Glad you had a win elsewhere.
I'm peed off cause ACTAB won't let me take out the $100 I put in my account cause of money laundering - I can only take out $50!
Apparently the whole $100 has to be played before being able to withdraw it.
BS I say.
Anyway even if I'm the only Chi player following your tips, at least you do have one!
-
Just call me voyeur Jack, Les. I like to keep an eye out for you.
-
Don't feel ripped off Jacki, it is a common theme with all of the betting agencies throughout the country. They use every trick in the book to encourage you to deposit a larger amount of money but cash can only be withdrawn on winnings or money that has been " turned over ".
You can never retrieve any part of your original deposit unless you turn it into winnings.
While my balance is looking a bit sick at the moment, i'm hopeful that over time, i can turn a big enough profit to encourage the voyeurs like Ozzyjack & others to turn into followers & actually invest a couple of dollars on my tips.
-
I’ve got short arms and deep pockets, Les.
-
Only $48 left to play with so i'm getting in early to get the bigger odds.
Caulfield on Saturday ;
Race 2 Horse 15 - CHASSIS.
$18 the win @ $15 & $30 the place @ $4.50............current balance is minus $100.00.
-
CHASSIS never looked likely & finished midfield.
-
Tomorrow i'm going to put my faith in a few favourites & have a 3 leg all up multi.
So that's $100 a win on MADDI ROCKS all up NATURE STRIP all up JUNIPAL.
First leg - Doomben race 3 horse 7 at 12.58pm ( maddi rocks )
Second Leg - Randwick race 4 horse 1 at 2.00pm (nature strip )
Last leg - Moonee Valley race 4 horse 6 at 2.15pm. (junipal )
Combined fixed odds are 5.21 for a potential return of $521.00 which would come in handy at the moment as the current balance is minus $200.00
-
2 out of 3 isn't bad but does not pay. ( nature strip was beaten, running 2nd. )
So it's back to the drawing board next week.
-
Jacki, how did you go with your flexi trifectas today... any luck?
I backed the 3 favourites individually as well as a couple of other last minute bets which also won so i ended up well in front on the day. ( just as well as i'll be dropping another $100 into the thread next week. ) Hopefully, i will be able to find a roughie at huge odds.
Did you know that you are one of my benchmark players on chi & when i get any where near your score ( even without a rosette which you have usually already achieved ) i feel that i have played a pretty good game.
I know that you are very competitive so just for a bit of fun, i would like to offer you a challenge.
Starting this Saturday, you post with an " imaginary " $100 worth of bets & we will see who finishes in front by the end of the year.
I emphasise that for you it is only " pretend " money but it might be fun to see who can win / lose the most amount of " fantasy " money by December 31st.
The intent is to create a bigger following of this thread.
I am pretty sure that you will most likely outperform me within a few weeks & create a huge following.
So are you up for the challenge remembering that this is all pretend & no real cash has to be invested?
-
Les that sounds like fun. Thanks for the compliments - my benchmark players are Mike, Doxydaisy and T-Rex. But I guess it's like golf, you're just improving your own lexicon and learning a few "Chi-isms" along the way. I've been playing four years tomorrow - Doxydaisy introduced me to the game when she came to visit for my husband's birthday (her brother). It has become a big part of my life and I love it and the contributors like yourself.
I picked eight winners yesterday, a quinella and trifecta. Unfortunately it was the lowest paying trifecta ever! But at least it was a 100% Flexi.
My only problem with the tips may be a timing issue cause I generally work Saturdays and so I look at the races Friday night and if there are scratchings then it will affect the outcome.
But if you're happy to have the tips on that basis then I'll give it a go.
-
That will be fine Jacki, i normally post my bets on Friday afternoon as well.
-
Going with another multi tomorrow ;
CADRE DU NOIR (win) into TOFANE (place) into WINDSTORM (win) into FARNAN (place).
First leg --Rosehill Race 1 H 3 @ 12.15pm. (cadre du noir for the win )
Second leg - Flemington Race 4 Horse 1 @ 1.40pm. (tofane the place )
Third Leg --- Flemington Race 6 Horse 14 @ 2.15pm ( windstorm the win )
Last leg ---- Rosehill Race 6 Horse 1 @ 3.15pm. ( farnan for the place)
Combined fixed odds are 7.9 to return $790.00... Current balance is now minus $300.
-
Jacki's tips - I'm tired and lazy and have not studied the form so every tip is at Rosehill tomorrow. Every tip is at the current fixed odds price I see on my ACTAB app. If you want to calculate them as at race time then that's fine but I'll record these odds that I see right now.
For those not following the history, I'm betting $100 in imaginary dollars.
Race 3 no 5 Vegas Jewel $20 win & $10 place. Odds are $6.50 win and $2.40 place.
Race 4 no 6 Wayupinthesky $10 each way $19 win & $3.50 place.
Race 7 no 11 Riodoni $10 each way $15 win & $3.40 place.
Race 8 no 13 Seasons $15 each way $18 win & $4.80 place.
Remember gamble responsibly!!
-
G'day Jacki, returns are calculated on the prices quoted at time of posting so you can just ignore any market fluctuations.
I must say that i am very impressed with your tips, love the fact that you are not afraid to make selections at double figure odds.
Not keen on Riodoni but i will be having something on all of your other tips.
Good Luck
-
Forgot to give you my best roughy for the day & that is Mildred in the last at Flemington.
That's R9 H 1 , currently around 20 to 1
-
I’m a tightwad even with play money. So I’ll start small. $10 each way.
Flemington race 8 number 2 Wisdom of Water
-
Well they've put me out of my misery nice & early, ..beaten in the first leg .. bugger!
-
Yes and for some reason I personally bet on on Amy's Shadow this morning Rosehill Race 2 at $19-1 and that's put me well in front for the day but didn't put it in my tips. This is probably going to drive me nuts. Still got two races to go but haven't earned a cracker in Chihuahua dollars! And you've busted early. You seem to go for a lot of favourites. I think they rarely win.
-
Ok so down $28. Seasons came third (thankfully) to pull me out of the poo. $15 place @ $4.80. Next week I hope to do better.
-
i actually liked Seasons so much that i backed it straight out for the win but typical of my day i got no return.
So the status is ;
Jacki ; minus $28.00
Les ; minus $100.00 ( i've omitted the pre - challenge losses )
And the late comer OzzyJack ; minus $20.00
I think that Ozzyjack as a novice punter might have got the concept a little bit back the front with Wisdom of Water finishing last.
-
Going to persevere with another multi, this one is at Caulfield 5 legs all the place for $50 at combined odds of 21.32 for potential return of $1088.00.
First leg ; R1 H3 CELESTIAL SOL @ 12.30pm
Second leg ; R4 H7 FRONT PAGE @ 2.15PM
Third leg ; R5 H3 FABRIC @ 2.55PM
Fourth leg ; R6 H2 ADENSFIELD @ 23.35PM
& the last leg is R7 H14 GAMEKEEPER @ 4.15PM
Also $50 a win on GAMEKEEPER at $9.
So, pending results, my balance is now minus $200
-
Ok here's my tips at fixed price odds as at the TAB rates now.
Randwick Race 1 Number 7 Prime Star Odds are $5.50 win and $2 place - $10 each way - $20 total.
Randwick Race 2 Number 12 Leo Odds are $26 win and $5 place $5 win and $10 place - $15 total.
Randwick Race 3 Number 4 Think It Over $8 win and $2.80 place - $10 win and $5 place - $15 total.
Caulfield Race 1 Number 2 Cumberbatch $5.50 win - $10 win.
Caulfield Race 2 Number 3 Riddle Me That $5.50 win - $10 win.
Caulfield Race 3 Number 9 Forever Free $4.20 win - $15 win.
Caulfield Race 5 Number 8 So You Swing $8 win - $15 win.
Total $100. Good luck.
PS I'm known as Lucky Jack.
-
Some nice bets there Lucky Jacki ( i reckon that sounds better ) Lets hope that one of us can at least get into the black to give this challenge some impetuous.
-
$50 each way Randwick r1 h6 Zakat
-
That;s more like it Jack, love your confidence.
I see that it is currently paying $6 win & $2.15 the place with Sportsbet
-
That's a good start Lucky Jacki
-
Not such a good start for me with the multi gone in the first leg
-
Unlucky Ozzyjack, with Zakat running fourth.
-
Think I'm -$94.
Better luck next week to us all. I thought Gamekeeper looked the goods on paper too.
-
Never mind, i'm sure that we will all do do much better next week.
As far as the scoreboard goes, i think that we have to put the " ring in " Ozzyjack on top with a balance of plus $80.
That is because he only outlaid $20 last week but going forward Jack, you must outlay all of your imaginary $100 each week.
I am nothing if not consistent so my balance is easily determined at minus $200. & Jacki your maths are spot on & you do indeed have a balance of minus $94.00.
-
I wouldn't want to take advantage. Pretend i did bet $100 on Wisdom of water. That makes us both on -$200.
-
My tips for tomorrow are ENTENTE & TRAVIMYFRIEND.
Rosehill race 3 horse 9 paying $7.00 win & $2.50 the place (ENTENTE )
Caulfield race 5 horse 4 paying $10.00win & $2.40 place. (TRAVIMYFRIEND )
Having $20 win & $30 place on each of them.
That gives me a balance of minus $300.00
-
Lucky Jacks tips: All Caulfield - Race 1 No 5 Be My Star @ $8.50 win & $2.40 place - $10 each way
Quinella same race 5 & 9 @ $10
Race 2 No 5 Jittery Jack $13 win & $4 place - $20 each way
Race 8 No 8 Harbour Views $13 win & $2.70 place - $15 each way
-
I don't want to put the mockers on you Lucky Jacki, but i have also backed Harbour Views in what is a very strong race.
Just a little miffed that i took 12 to 1 & now it is on the drift, already out to 16 to 1 so depending on how my earlier bets go, i might have to double up.
Good Luck
-
Just realised it was Saturday.
both Rosehill Gardens
R6 H5 I am superman $50 Win
R8 H2 Haut Brion Hur $50 Place
-
Well Saturday normally does follow Friday!
Anyway mate, great to hear from you, i was starting to get a bit concerned.
Good luck with your selections.
-
Well that's easy for me to calculate - -$194.
Well done fellas.
-
We had some mixed results today but at least there were finally a couple of collects.
Ozzyjack, when you post your bets you choose to not quote the current prices which is absolutely fine, it just means that your return is dictated by whatever the sportsbet payout is after the event.
In this instance your strategy has worked out very well because I AM SUPERMAN paid $5.00 for the win which was a much better return than its earlier quote.
Unfortunately your other selection failed to run a place so your total return for the day is $250.00
I finally managed to get a return with ENTENTE winning however TRAVIMYFRIEND (no longer my friend ) failed to run a place so my total collect for the day was $215.00.
So the status of our challenge scoreboard has our novice punter (Ozzyjack ) leading the way with a balance of minus $50.00
Closely followed by Looney Les with a balance of minus $85.00 & Lucky Jacki with a balance of minus.$194.00
Just look out for Lucky Jacki to bounce back next week with multiple winners.
PS. Jacki, i could not resist when Harbour Views got out to 21 to 1 so i did double up but of course you know the unfortunate result.
-
Yes and I know the feeling cause I followed you on Travimyfriend/enemy.
-
Here's a couple that i like at Flemington tomorrow ;
Race 7 Horse 9 VEERY ELLEEGANT ; $40 win at $4.80
Race 9 Horse 3 ALCYONE ;$20 win at $10.00
& a $40 all up place multi at $6.05
-
I need a few wins fellas - all Flemington as well.
Race 6 no 8 Creedence $25 each way @ $16/win and $4.60 place.
Race 8 no 6 Perfect Jewel $20 win @ $4.40/win
Race 9 no 4 Wise Counsel $15 each way @ $9.50/win and $3.20 place.
Good luck!!
-
Golly these SATURDAYS come around fast.
Les, I am going to take your word on the first one.
Flemington Race 7 Horse 9 VEERY ELLEEGANT ; $40 win at $5.00
Flemington Race 9Horse 14 YOUNG WERTHER ; $30 win at $3.60
Darwin Race 5 Horse 7 AMIGO MIO $30 place at $11.00 Picked it because I thought of you, Les
-
Thanks mate, i feel very humble & honoured.
-
Well done fellas. Veery Elleegant did so well.
Easy to work my balance out -$294.
Aargh!!
-
Just the one winner yesterday which was VEERY ELLEEGANT
(if she had lost i was going to blame it on Ozzyjune )
Ozzyjack collected $200.00 ( the bugger got a better price than me )
so that gives Jack a balance of PLUS $50.00
our first punter to actually be in profit.
I collected $192.00 on the same horse which gives me a balance of PLUS $7.00
Jacki continues with her strategy of coming from the tail of the field with a balance of MINUS $294.00
-
CAULFIELD TOMORROW.
R3 H7 PHASTIOS $20 win $30 place at 6.5 & 1.95
R5 H1 HEY DOC $20 WIN $30 place at 9.0 & 2.9
-
Lucky Jack says Caulfield R8 Number 3 Ole Kirk $100 win. The fixed odds are currently $3.20 and the Tote is $7.30 so if it is in the rules can I just go with the tote please?
You've got a few roughies there Les, good luck.
-
The rules i have in place allow for the quoted price at time of posting to be the dividend that you collect.(" any market fluctuations will be disregarded" )
It is only if you fail to quote prices when posting that the after race dividend would apply.
So Lucky Jack you are entirely within the rules & when Ole gets up tomorrow you will be collecting $730.00.
Jacki, in the majority of cases i normally bet fixed price because as you would be aware F.P. will normally end up paying better than the tote because as you would also be aware the tote price can tumble in a matter of seconds.
This challenge is all about having a bit of fun so we might as well take the best possible prices we can get so thanks for your brilliant idea as it just never occurred to me to even look at the early tote odds just a shame that it doesn't work that way in the real world.
I have already posted for tomorrow so i won't change those odds but in future i will be definitely looking at the early tote prices.
I will be cheering for Ole Kirk to romp in tomorrow...Good Luck
-
Thanks Les and good luck to you too!
-
RANDWICK
R7. H1. CHERRY TORTONI. $25 win @$4.60
R8 H5. ALL SAINTS EVE. $15 win $10 place @ $6.50 & $2.40
CAULFIELD
R4. H7. LYRE. $25 win @ $4.80
R8. H9. MO’UNGA $15 win $10 place @ $7.00 & $2.40
-
Wooohhh !!!, now we know why they call you Lucky Jack, well done mate.
Having an ordinary day myself so i've jumped on the shoulders of Ozzyjack & backed Cherry to get me out of trouble.
-
Thanks Les - I don't actually think it's fair that I get the odds from yesterday - when I posted what I meant was whatever it pays on the day is fine, I think you'd already said that if you don't pick fixed odds then it's the tote price.
I'll leave it to you to decide. Either way I'm finally ahead.
-
Congratulations, Jacki. Well done.
For me it’s one day your the dog, the next day you’re the lamppost.
-
G'day Jacki,
I've reviewed my previous posts since the challenge started & the only " rule " relating to dividends that i could find was this one ;
"" returns are calculated on the prices quoted at time of posting so you can just ignore any market fluctuations. "
I also stated that if you failed to quote odds at time of posting then your dividend would be whatever the fixed price on sportsbet was after the event.
So given this criteria, you are definitely entitled to collect your 7.3 for Ole Kirk.
As i said previously, even though the early tote odds are always much higher than fixed price, i rarely take any notice because by race time the odds are usually reversed so it just never even occurred to me to check the tote odds.
You have very cleverly identified an avenue where we can claim an inflated early tote price.
As this challenge is all about just having a bit of harmless fun, i can see no reason why we should not take the early " overs " & just dream about how nice it would be in the real world but of course if that was the case all of the bookies would be broke. ( a bit like Ozzyjack & myself currently are).
-
So Lucky Jack charges to the the top of the leader board with a balance of plus $436.00
Ozzyjack slips back into the red with a balance of minus $50.00
Looney Les now trails the field with a balance of minus $34.50
Stay tuned for next weeks riveting results ;
Will Lucky Jack take a wack ?
Will Ozzyjack make a fightback?
Will Looney Les be left at the back?
At this point i would like to offer an opportunity to all followers of this thread to cast a vote for who they they think might be the ultimate winner of this enthralling challenge.
Keep in mind that this challenge closes on the last Saturday in November but there will be a couple of extra betting days, those being the first Tuesday in November & of course the following ladies day on Oaks Day.
There is absolutely no restriction on voting ( so yes Ozzyjack that means that you & Bonnie can vote for yourself ) except that you can only vote once & all eligible votes must be received by midnight this coming Friday the 16th October.
-
Ozzyjack slips back into the red with a balance of minus $50.00
Looney Les now trails the field with a balance of minus $34.50
minus $34.50 is ahead of minus $50.00
-
oops
-
Had a big day on the punt & on the drink yesterday & got a bit carried away with my posting so sorry for the muck up.
Backed up today on the Cranbourne Cup but did no better than yesterday.
Status of votes for the challenge winner is as follows ;
Looney Les -- 1 vote -- Lodged by Les303
Ozzyjack -- zero votes
Lucky Jack -- zero votes
Voting ends at midnight this Friday so get your votes in so that you can share the bragging rights with the winner.
-
So let me get this right - you're proposing a bet on who is going to win a bet?
-
Well ... Yes.
I was actually just curious to see how many votes would be received. ( if any at all )
-
The voting suggestion has gone down like a lead balloon which is not surprising as it was a pretty silly idea to start with.
Anyway here are my bets for Saturday, both at Caulfield ;
R5 H5 SILHOUETTE $20 win $30 place at 8.5 & 2.8
& have to stick with Veery Elleegant in the cup (bit of rain would help) that's :
R9 H7 VEERY ELLEEGANT $50 the win at 5.0.
-
Caulfield Cup Race 9 no 18 Chapada $50 each way. Current fixed odds $21 win and $6 place.
Good luck Les
-
And good luck to you too Lucky Jack.
Hopefully we will run the quinella. ( but with V.E. first of course.)
Maybe Ozzyjack might even provide us with the trifecta?
-
If I knew what a trifecta was I might even try.
RANDWICK R2 $20 each way H16 MR MOPPET @ $8.50 & $2.90
CAULFIELD R9 $30 each way H17 TOFFEE TONGUE @ $16.00 & $4.80
and good luck to both of you.
-
I'm impressed, not even Saturday yet & you have already posted your bet.
The quinella involves picking 1st & 2nd in the correct order.
For a trifecta you must pick 1st, 2nd & 3rd in the correct order.
By selecting Toffee Tongue in the cup you have potentially provided the trifecta because ;
I have selected Veery Elleegant
Lucky Jack has selected Chapada
Ozzyjack has seleted Toffee Tongue
So i have placed a boxed trifecta (that means that any of those 3 runners can finish in any order in the top 3 ) & it only costs $6 for a 100% dividend.
-
My trifecta for the Caulfield Cuo is 7, 11 and 18.
-
I like yours better Jacki because they all add up so i am taking that one as well.
-
Well done Les. Veery Ellegant ran beautifully. A gutsy win.
-
Wot she said
-
Thank you Jack for that resounding & heart felt message of support.
Did you guys notice that the first four paid about 19k.
I ended up taking half a dozen different combinations all of which included Veery Elleegant, Chapada & Toffee Tongue however the closest i came was 1st, 2nd & fourth.
Hopefully, despite having the beer goggles on again, i will get the scoreboard right ;
Lucky Jack --- Plus $336.00
Looney Les --- Plus $115.50
Ozzyjack ----- Minus $150.00
-
My bests for Saturday ;
Moonee Valley R8 H12 POLY GREY $20 win $30 place @ 10.0 & 3.3
Randwick R8 H1 INANUP $20 win $30 place @ 9.5 & 3.0
-
Moonee Valley Race 5 No 3 Sovereign Award $50 win @ $3.60.
Moonee Valley Race 9 No 10 Nettoyer $20 win @ $81 and $30 place at $17.
Les I think Polly Grey is No 12.
Good luck!
-
I was Just testing to see if you were paying attention. :-[
I have made the amendment, thanks Jacki.
-
I'll see if we could have a couple of virtual quinnellas, Les ;
Moonee Valley R7 H1 Homesman $40 win @ 3.7
Moonee Valley R8 H7 Sound $30 win @ 5.0
Randwick R8 H5 Hilo $30 win @ 3.0
-
That was an easy watch, well done Jacki
-
Nice one Jack, that was another easy watch.
-
I'm having a wonderful day - all the orange horses are doing well - I just don't know why my trifectas pay in the 100's and not the $1000's when I rarely pick the favourite. One day.
-
Glad to hear that Lucky Jack is having a good day.
Do you have a trifecta going in the Cox Plate?
If you can jag a trifecta that includes Nettoyer then you will definitely be collecting thousands.
-
Yep - 7, 10 & 13 - the others I picked primarily for the jockeys - they seem to rise to the big occasions.
-
Couple of weekends ago I got three trifectas. Again the best paying was $200 - oh well I'll keep having fun.
-
Well that was a great win to Boss. Very classy win.
-
Bloody imports ( i backed russian camelot @ $6 on Thursday )
Just like you say Jacki, the best jockeys always seem to produce in the big races & Bossy has done it countless times but then of course so has Olllie, Bossy was just on the better horse today.
-
Well the two Jackies have definitely trumped the Joker today.
Thankfully i managed to just get out of trouble with La Mexicana narrowly winning the last at Moonee Valley.
I will update the challenge scoreboard tomorrow when i have a clearer head unless of course someone would like to complete that task for me.
-
" I haven’t looked at the horses yet but I better spend 5 minutes on it or Les will go crook at me again. "
It seems that all of that extra time & effort put into studying the form has paid off for Ozzyjack who was clearly our punter of the day with 2 outstanding winners, those being HOMESMAN & HILO for a total collect of $238.00
Lucky Jack also had a good day with SOVEREIGN AWARD
winning in a canter & returning $180.00
No return at all for a luckless Looney Les.(Inanup ran 4th & Poly Grey simply could not run the distance).
So to the Challenge score board where Lucky Jack remains a comfortable leader ;
LUCKY JACK --- PLUS $416.00
LOONEY LES --- PLUS $15.50
OZZYJACK ---- MINUS $12.00
-
-$150+$238=-12 (https://cdn4.iconfinder.com/data/icons/negative-character-traits-alphabet-a/259/negative-A015-512.png)
-
No Jack, that would actually equal plus $88.
However - 250 (which was your starting balance ) plus your winnings of 238 = your current balance of - $12 And next Saturday once you have placed your bets your starting balance will drop to - $112
-
(https://www.giftstogive.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Light-bulb-moment-200x200.jpg)
-
Actually this might be easier to keep track of, if on the day that we post our bets, we also post our adjusted balance which includes the $100 just outlayed & then when all results are are in, i will post an updated summary.
-
Are we going to have an extra $100 for Melbourne Cup?
-
All Rosehill, All Each Way.
$20 R4 H5 Kirwan Lane 5.50, 2.15
$20 R8 H13 Collette 6.00, 2.25
$10 R7 H12 Haut Brion Her 5.50, 2.00
-----
$100
Starting balance - $112
-
Keep in mind that this challenge closes on the last Saturday in November but there will be a couple of extra betting days, those being the first Tuesday in November & of course the following ladies day on Oaks Day which is Thursday.
Looks like the late mail has come early this week for ozzyjack.
My bets for Saturday are at Flemington ;
R8 H1 FIFTY STARS $30 win at 12.0
R9 H1 EXHILLARATES $30 at 20.0
& $40 a place all up @ combined odds of 17.48
( Jack that just means that they both have to run a place )
Starting Balance - minus $84.50
Melbourne Cup is of course on Tuesday the 3rd. & Oaks/Ladies day is Thursday 5th.
-
I am watching cricket at Wynnum tomorrow morning and so I thought I would get it out of the way today. You’ve got me confused about your starting balance. Can you explain why it is not -84.50?
When it comes to understanding exotics I am all up the creek without a paddle
-
Flemington Race 9 Diamond Spirit $50 win @ $4
Rosehill Race 6 Fun Fact $25 each way - I'll do market odds on the day if that's ok.
Good luck fellas.
-
Thanks Jack, i just made a careless mistake, had a quick look at previous balance & just tacked on minus 1 in front of it without giving myself credit for the plus 15.50 so of course my starting balance should be minus $84.50.
I will modify that previous post.
Who's playing cricket tomorrow, are you taking both of the girls or just the mischievous one & leaving Bonnie at home?
No problem at all Jacki that is always your option however the return for Fun Fact will be what ever Sports Bet is paying after the event.
Are you both ok with the extra bets on both Cup & Oaks day.
-
G'day Jacki, i do love your spirit but should that be Diamond Effort.
-
Sorry Les - yes Diamond Effort. As for the extra bets that's fine with me.
-
The cricket to me is more important than the Boxing Day Test, It will be the first time I have had a chance to see my grandsons play.
No probs with the extra race days.
-
What an exciting & very proud time for you, have a great day mate. (hopefully, the late storm that they are predicting won't impact on the game)
All of the bets have been posted for today so our starting balances are ;
Jacki -- plus $316.00
Les - minus $84.50
Jack - minus $112.00
Good luck to all & extra good luck too the youngsters on the field at Wynnum
-
EXHILLARATES has been scratched so that also voids my all up.
My replacement bets ;
Flemington R8 HI FIFTY STARS $30 win @ 12.0
Rosehill R5 H1 BLACK MAGNUM $30 win @ 12.5 (tote odds )
& $40 a place all up multi @ combined odds of 7.5
-
Congratulations to Ozzyjack who was the only one to pick a winner yesterday & that was Collette for a return of $165.00.
He also collected $20.00 on Haut Brion Her which was just pipped on the line by the favourite.
Lucky Jack -- plus $316.00
Ozzyjack ---- plus $73.00
Looney Les - minus $84.50
-
I thought I should have got $20 for Haut Brion Her as well.
-
Sorry Jack, glad you are keeping an eye on me, i'll make the adjustment.
How did the boys go at cricket yesterday, do you have a budding Bradman in the family?
-
The Wynnum blacks shaded the Holland Park Blues, the boys team, but both boys hit several fours. I don't know how good Bradman was when he was 7 or 9.
-
I'm having $46 on Prince of Arran ( number 12 ) to win the cup @ 11.0.
Also investing $54 in a boxed trifecta ( returns 90% of dividend ) with these numbers ; 7 , 12 , 13 , 15 & 16.
That brings my starting balance down to minus $184.50
Jack, i don't know much about the Don's schoolboy cricket but i do remember reading somewhere about when he first played A grade.
He was 12 to 13 years of age & was commandeered by his uncle ( who captained the local Bowral team ) to act as the scorer.
The team was a man short so they let the young Don fill in.
He scored around 30 or 40 in both innings then went on to set all sorts of records in bush cricket before being noticed by the talent scouts from Sydney & the rest is history.
Did you know that his mother, Emily, was from Mittagong, New South Wales?
-
7. VERRY ELEEGANT $10 WIN @$11, $20 PLACE @$3.50
12. PRINCE OF ARRAN $10 WIN @$11, $20 PLACE @$3.60
13. SURPRISE BABY $20 EACH WAY @ $8, $2.80
I think that brings my starting balance down to -$27
No, I didn't know his mum was from Mittagong but on looking it up today I found it was the reason they moved to Bowral when Bradman was 3 so that Emily could be close to her relatives.
-
My favourite day of the year - hope you enjoy yourselves and back a winner or ten!
I picked Vow and Declare last year but unfortunately it hasn't done much this year but I better include it just in case because apart from Surprise Baby and King Leogrance which is scratched it's the only horse to have won at Flemington, won over the distance and won in the last 12 months.
So I'll have No 3 Vow and Declare @ $6 win and $6 place @ $41 win & $11 place
A roughie No 24 Persan $3 each way @ $31 win and $8.50 place
No 13 Surprise Baby $30 win @ $8 win and $10 place @ $2.75
Boxed Quinella 5,7, 12 & 13 - 3 units @ 6/unit = $18 (3 x the dividend)
Boxed Trifecta same numbers - 1 unit = $24 (100% of the dividend)
-
It seems that we have come up with three common selections, no surprise really, after all they do say that great minds think alike.
Hopefully it is a good omen & if 7,12 & 13 happen to finish in any order in the top three then we will all be having a collect of some description.
Starting balances ;
Lucky Jack --- plus $216.00
Ozzyjack ---- minus $27.00
Looney Les -- minus $184.50
-
I think that it is fair to say that we were a little bit unlucky but that's racing.
Once again, Ozzyjack was the only one to have a collect with the third placing of Prince of Arran which returned him $72.00.
So the update is ;
Lucky Jack -- plus $216.00
Ozzyjack ---- plus $45.00
Looney Les - minus $184.50
Hopefully i have got my maths right for a change & haven't missed anything & just as hopeful that we will have better luck on Ladies Day. ( Thursday )
-
My tips for Flemington tomorrow all at current fixed odds rates:
Race 3 no 6 Ancestry $50 win @ $3.40
Race 5 no 3 Sky Punch $25 win @ $4.80
Race 6 no 10 Mi Keri Pi $25 place @ $6
Good luck fellas
-
,Thanks Jacki & the very best of luck to you too, although i am taking you on in race 3.
R3 H3 GARNER - $30 a win at 10.0
R4 H6 SAVAHEAT -$30 a win at 9.5
& an all up place bet with these two for $40 at combined odds of 7.56.
-
$ BET RACE HORSE ODDS
20 WIN 2 1 FAKE LOVE 4.40
20 WIN 4 5 ADELAIDE ACE 4.80
20/20 EACH WAY 8 6 MIRAVELLE 7.50,2.10
20 PLACE 9 10 CELESTINE 4.80
Good Luck to youse all.
-
Thanks Jack, i was starting to think that you may have forgotten about betting today, perhaps distracted by setting cane toad traps?
Starting balances for today ;
Lucky Jack -- plus $116.00
Ozzyjack ---- minus $55.00
Looney Les - minus $284.50
-
Good Luck to youse all.
I sometimes go sailing.
There was a local lass who often sailed with us.
She frequently said 'youse guys'.
One day the Skipper asked her why said said 'youse guys'?
She replied, 'becasue there's more than one of youse !'
-
Hi Michael,
I have a spelling checker.
It came with my PC,
It plainly marks four my revue,
Mistakes I cannot sea.
I've run this poem threw it,
I'm sure your pleased to no,
Its letter purfect in it's weigh,
My checker tolled me sew.
Cents I began to youse it,
I'm reel, reel pleased eye I got won.
My righting's sew much bettor now,
Ware wood eye bee without won.
-
Hi Jack
Once upon a time our national broadcasters and newspapers prided themselves on their use of language.
It seems that now they may be using the same spell checker that you refer to.
Michael
-
Me thinks that spellchecker is qwite allrite.
With prefect spelling all of the thyme.
Gramma also korrected for an eazy rime.
Acktuely tens to make me look reely brite.
Had a bet today on a long prised nagg.
Blank akount know has nothing left.
If the misses finds out, sheill be bereft.
Hourse got up, telling no one, monnee staz in my bag.
I do hope that youse r all having a great arvo.
Jack, yu must looke after your puppie & set that trap.
We dont want her getting inflected with that cane toad crap.
Of corse, her shoots must also be up the date so their is no parvo.
-
Well this is great to see with everyone having a little collect.
Before i update the scoreboard could you please just confirm the following as i would not like to stuff it up yet again.
I have Ozzyjack collecting $138.00 for the placings of MIRAVELLE & CELESTINE (what a terrific selection that was )
I have Lucky Jack collecting $170.00 with the stylish win of ANCESTRY
And i have myself collecting $302.40 for my all up place bet with GARNER & SAVAHEAT
-
Well done everyone! Your maths are correct for me Les.
-
Les,
Your Poetry is excellent and your arithmetic would have been right if Miravelle had got a place but TAB and Sportsbet have it running 4th. So I make my collect $96.
Congratulations to both big winners.
-
Thanks for the correction Jack.
I managed to get MIRAVELLE & MONTEFILIA mixed up probably because i was still alive with an 8 leg all up bet (returning just under 10k ) & MONTEFILIA was the only leg that i missed.
Anyway this what i think the current scoreboard should be ;
Lucky Jack -- plus $286.00
Ozzyjack ---- plus $41.00
Looney Les -- plus $17.90
Please do make sure that you double check my maths & good luck for this coming Saturday
-
My bets for Saturday.
Flemington R7 H12 AFFAIR TO REMEMBER $20 win, $30 place.
Doomben R8 H8 RED CHASE $20win, $30 place.
My starting balance ; minus $82.10
-
So the TAB has Affair to Remember as at best $11 win FO and $4.50 Tote and Red Chase $13.90 win & $16 place on the Tote so I think that's not realistic Les that the win odds are less than the place.
Something is not right.
-
All Rosehill; all $10 each way
RACE HORSE
1 2 SHAKESPEAR'SGALLEY 20.00 4.60
4 14 AMYS SHADOW 7.50 2.60
5 4 BOBBY DEE 41.00 11.00
6 2 CAPTIVANT 3.30 1 45
7 10 WANDABAA 5.00 1.90
My starting balance is -$59
-
I agree Jacki which is why i did state that the prices they were showing at the time were ridiculously generous odds.
The fact is that early tote prices are really no guide at all & generally ignored because everyone knows that by race time those odds change dramatically to reflect the true market.
Anyway, in the interest of fairness, i will amend my post & if i should be lucky enough to have a collect, then i will take whatever Sports Bet are paying after the events.
-
Yep well you don't have to change your odds, I'm just saying that doesn't make sense, so maybe a clear rule for all would be good.
I think we all have different betting channels - personally I'm with the TAB, so maybe only quote the FO of the particular sports agency we bet with or just specify the Tote odds, determined after the race has run.
Anyhow my pick for tomorrow is Flemington Race 9, no 17 The Gauch $50 each way and the current FO with the TAB are $6.50 win and $2.30 place.
Good luck fellas
-
G'day Jacki, in hindsight, i don't think that it would be fair for me to be taking those unrealistic early tote odds which as you point are at times just nonsensical.
I'm happy to revert to your guidelines ( which were in fact my original rules until someone came up with the idea of taking the early tote odds ) for the rest of this challenge after all this is all about having a bit of fun so we don't want to be nitpicking over prices & hopefully we can repeat our effort from Thursday when everybody had a collect.

Jacki, i just noticed that The Gauch has been scratched.
So you can choose to either just take the $100.00 refund or have another bet.
I know that you are probably at work today so if you do choose to place an alternative bet then you can do that at any venue or at any time that suits you so long as it is done before next Saturday.
Starting balances for today ;
Lucky Jack --- plus $186.00
Ozzy Jack ---- minus $59.00
Looney Les --- minus $82.10
-
Just noticed your post Les - thanks for that. And yes it's best to have the same rules for all.
I didn't mean to change the rules early on, it would have been okay to can it.
Anyhow Flemington Race 3 No 5 Riddle Me That $50 each way at $9 win & $2.60 place.
-
No worries Jacki, it's all good.
-
G'day Jack, are you aware that Bobby Dee was scratched from R5.
You can collect your $20 refund or reinvest it, entirely your choice.
-
The way I am going today I’ll take the refund.
Congratulations on your big win so far. Good luck in Doomben.
-
My TAB app has been down all afternoon. What's your big win Les? I'm excited for you!
-
Sorry about the slow response but the sports bet site was also affected by the power outage yesterday afternoon.
Here are the results ;
Lucky Jack had no luck.
Ozzyjack collected $20.00 for the scratching of Bobby Lee
Looney Les collected $502.00 for the wins of Affair to Remember (paid 7.0 & 2.4 ) & Red Chase which paid 10.0 & 3.0

R2 H5 HOME IN FIVE 2.90
R4 H4 DIG DEEP 15 00 4.60
Good Luck guys, and if you have the time, could you tell me what your bets mean.
-
Firstly Jack, i should just clarify that your bets are $20 each way in races 1 & 4 & $20 win in race 2 ?
My $40 all up bet just means that both of my selections either have to win or run a place for me to collect.
And Jacki's bets obviously mean that if either of her selections should drop some manure while standing in the barriers & the stewards deem it to be smelly then she collects with her on the nose bets.
She also collects if they win the race.
-
I thought $20 win/$20 Place was $20 each way and $20 win and no Place bet was $20 win.
-
G'day Jack, i noticed your post on my way to bed last night & could not resist a quick if slightly sarcastic reply.
Jacki's $50 on the nose bets are just another way of saying $50 a win.
Of course manure has nothing to do with it, that's just me trying to be funny.
A clearer way to explain my $40 all up bet ;
I have $40 a place on Lord Belvedere, if that horse finishes in the top 3 then that dividend is automatically reinvested into Fiesta to also finish in the top 3 at the combined place odds of 5.62
You are correct in what you say about your own bets, it was just that you normally phrase it differently so i was just making sure that i was interpreting it correctly.
Anyway good luck too all, here are today's starting balances ;
Looney Les ---- plus $319.90
Lucky Jack ---- plus $086.00
Ozzyjack ------ minus $139.00
-
Well done Jack, good to see you on the board with home in five winning in style.
-
Well Done, Jacki. Leading the way again today.
-
Here is the wrap up for today.
Looney Les from hero to zero with no return at all. ( your only ever as good as your last bet.)
Ozzyjack did extremely well in the wet at Ascot with the win of home in five
& the 2nd. placing of dig deep returning a total of $150.00
Lucky Jack had the biggest collect of the day with the brilliant win of through the cracks returning $180.00.
Updated balances ;
Looney Les --- plus $319.90
Lucky Jack --- plus $266.00
Ozzyjack ----- plus $11.00
As always, please do check my math & let me know if i have missed something & remember that there are only two more Saturdays before the end of the challenge so it might be time to get a bit braver with our bets.
-
As always Les I commend your enthusiasm and efforts in making this challenge so exciting.
It's very close and it's anyone's to win.
Well done fellas and no matter the outcome I'm proud of us all.

-
Nice one Jacki
-
Thanks - wish I had put some money on it. I was too busy! Good luck with your next picks fellas
-
Well i came up with a zero return again today but at least i was in good company as Ozzyjack also came up empty.
Lucky Jack however had a gem of a win with Stolen Jade which returned $228.00 to sling her back to the top of the scoreboard ;
Lucky Jack ---- plus $394.00
Looney Les ---- plus $219.90
Ozziejack ------ minus $89.00
I was surprised to hear that Jacki had not backed her selections with her own money as i usually do that at the same time that i post.
I did that today so i was obviously losing but sometimes it pays to persevere & increase your outlay in the hope of retrieving your losses or maybe even finishing in front on the day ;

-
Well Jacki, looks like it all comes down to race 8 at Rosehill ... Good luck.
-
Didn't see the race Les but at least you were top four. After not having a bet on my winning tips last week I've bet on everything today and so far it's a big donut.
Let's hear it for Super in the last race to recoup my outlay and a modest profit.
As for the Chihuahua competition it's been fun. I'm glad it's over so I don't have to pore over the form on a Friday and no stress anymore cause the honour and the glory is a heavy burden to bear!!
-
We had no collects today which leaves Lucky Jack as our clear winner of the challenge.
I must acknowledge the sterling effort of Ozzyjack who as a novice punter performed very well with some extremely strategic bets. ( in particular the day that he chose to follow me in backing Veery Eleegant )
I do hope that you have all had a bit of fun & join with me in applauding our very deserved winner who consistently out performed her opposition week after week.
Congratulations Jacki, you have won the bragging rights as chi's best punter.
-
PS, i did manage to get out of trouble in the last ;
