Yes, indeed! Best wishes on your natal anniversary. It looks like you're having sunny weather over there, a fine day to celebrate.

Thank very much, everyone. I've just got back from a weekend with my brother and his soon-to-be-wife. They're getting married in a couple of weeks but I'll miss the wedding because I'll be on holiday. So it was a sort of birthday/pre-wedding get together. He cooked a lovely vegetarian meal for me - if he wasn't my brother I'd be asking him to marry me instead!

Me too! Thanks, Birdy. Asa Wright was fab (as you know) and when I've sorted out some pics I'll send you a link. Where have you been?

Puerto Rico, a birding trip, and Florida, visiting a friend who tolerantly took me to great birding spots.  Haven't labeled the pictures yet.

Best wishes Pat.

My late mother also had her birthday on St Patrick's Day, once every six or seven years also coinciding with Mothers' Day in the UK.

Bit late to this party, but if you're still in the tropics, here's hoping some extra special rare birds pose for your camera to celebrate ... :)

I'm back home now and I have to say that bird-wise the trip was somewhat of a disappointment in terms of birds even seen well let alone photographed. If I hadn't been to Costa Rica before I'd be thinking it's not very good for birds but I know that's not the case.

Insect-wise it was a massive disappointment. I think I must have set my expectations too high, but there was very little to see, even when I went out at night with my torch. Bizarrely the most numerous creatures were harvestmen, several different species. Would you believe I only saw two grasshoppers the whole time I was there?

I did get photos of a couple of good bugs and I'll post them in the photography thread.
