How about "yarder" ??
-- per wikipedia: A yarder is piece of logging equipment which uses a system of cables to pull or fly logs from the stump to the landing. It generally consists of an engine, drums, and spar, but has a range of configurations and variations such as the Swing yarder.
I've been hearing about this machine since watching a "reality" show "Swamp Loggers" ... Obviously, the equipment is highly specialized so I'd expect the word would be considered rare. I'm pretty sure it's legit, though and should be added to the acceptable word list.
Cheers!

Any other opinions on this one? Apparently, just like myself, few chi-mates are actually experts in logging, but I believe this deserves a second look.

I googled it and see that it's used a lot but I've never come across it myself. I haven't watched that reality show.
It does not appear in the song "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay..."

Have you missed seeing this one, Alan, or still have to do more research?

??? ???
I feel like that customer in Fawlty Towers that kept trying to order drinks ... ;D

Well the thing is, Threeb, there's such a backlog of requests that I've given up trying to answer them in the order they were proposed. I'm just going by the order in which the topics are displayed - which is based on the date of the latest post in each thread. So every time you post a reminder, your proposal loses its place in the queue, as it were.
Anyhow, yarder is listed in the Shorter Oxford and Wiktionary, and is certainly used by those who need to talk about such machines, so I'll add it.

Thanks for explaining that policy, since it has changed - I apologize for being so needy. I just thought you didn't like me any more! >:(
Just kidding. And, at least the outcome went in my favo(u)r so life is good!!!!
